DaVinci Resolve 17 doesn't start due to multiple GPUs

PostTue Apr 06, 2021 4:35 pm

Hello everyone,
ever since the update from 16 to 17 I cannot start DaVinci resolve without first disabling the integrated GPU of my laptop in Device Manager.

I have tried making DaVinci resolve to run in what windows calls High performance mode:

but that does not help. It is very annoying having to disable integrated GPU every time I want to run DaVinci. I don't even get an error message that I could send to you guys, it just goes thru the Loading phase and then the actual software (where you chose projects etc.) never shows up.

This has been an ongoing problem since last August and one it would seem that the developers are unable or uninteresting in resolving if you will excuse the pun!

Hopefully Dwaine will get it sorted as he is obviously getting frustrated at the lack of progress - meaning he has an additional workload that he could no doubt do without.

The post that has been going since last August has now stalled as no doubt will this - I hope that I am proved wrong.

Thanks for the reply John. Well I am glad it is at least a known issue and fingers crossed it will eventually get fixed. Luckily I do not use Resolve that often, but I imagine it must be a nightmare for those who use it daily.

As the program will start if the Intel graphics are disabled - then I have gone down the road of getting Intel involved in trying to resolve the situation.

They have been very helpful with trying out new drivers - one test we did was to remove the driver and then restart the machine,

Windows 10 then put in an old Intel driver ....and Resolve started up without a problem!

Whilst - yes I could leave that driver in....however the next Windows update would then automatically replace it with the latest version .....and the problem would be back.

All this information is being used by Intel in the hope that we can get some resolution to this ongoing problem .....although why on earth BMD haven't been talking too Intel about it is beyond me.

Let's hope it can be sorted - then Dwayne's workload will no doubt get much lighter!

Dwaine - please can you answer the following question from the engineers at Intel as soon as possible:

' Since you are still in touch with DaVinci Resolve developer support team, have you checked on what was the potential root cause? Is there any special requirement for this software? Like using a non-DCH driver?'

Many thanks in anticipation of a speedy reply,

Best wishes,

John
