Disk does not connect

I use Davinci Resolve 17. on Mac for video editing / FREE /

Hi everyone,

After upgrading to version.17 I am not allowed to connect my Lacie disk - it says it is ExFat Formatted. What am I to do?

Also I tried my other disk (called Passport) which now says "Error - failed to connect to database" when I try to connect?

What can I do?

there seems to be two issue? or is there one?

is it media that cant be found or database?

did you update from v16 to 17?
When you did, did you update the database?
Is the database on an exFat drive.. if so, we don't recommend this.. can you detail the folder path from the top level where your DB is on the drive.. details where to find it normally in FAQs but if its on you removable drive you might need to hunt for it

if its media relinking issue.. is the drive listed in your Davinci Resolve preferences?

Actually, in my experience a database on exFAT doesn't work at all.

I just got my passport-disk to work, so now only one problem..

The database lies on my Lacie-disk, which apparently is Exfat formatted.
- I actually just got that disk to work as well, but as I understand you, I shouldn't use it..
Can I change the format on my disk, so it will work in the future? (Instead of buying yet another disk)

And no, I don't recall updating my database when I upgraded from 16 to 17? Unless it does that automatically.
How do one do that..

1. You can simply reformat that drive to NTFS (for Windows) or HFS+ (for Macs). Of course, not without a backup, since all content will be gone.
2. It should have asked you automatically if you want to update the database and even warn you that you can't go back. If that didn't happen, it didn't recognise it.

Can I change into a format, that works for both of us??

Your need some translation software on either side. I’d recommend Paragon.
But then, you can move project files and media on an exFAT drive. Only a single database for both won’t work on exFAT.

Here's my thinking.

Your datbase should be on an internal drive formatted as HFS+. The other guy's on an internal disk formatted as NTFS.

You can share projects, bins or timelines. But not the database.

That changes if you want to use a PostgreSQL database and Collaboration mode for which you need a server and both machines in the same building connected to that.

(I hope I have that right.)
