Bug: AAF export skips clips

PostFri Apr 10, 2020 12:00 pm

In the attached image you can see the edit in Resolve, and the resulting error-free import in Pro Tools. Clips have vanished. It's like I've been exporting an old version or something (not the case).

The audio also get cut too early at some points, resulting in mute moments that have to be edited back.

I had installed 16.2 but it crashed half the times I clicked the Fairlight tab, so I reverted back to 16.1.
Is there any success with AAF exports in 16.2? Does it actually do proper exports?

Side notes:
1) I can't even try to re-export because I get an error for some video clip all the time and as a result the AAF is never made. By miracle I had a successful export yesterday after 3 attempts.

2) The waveforms in Edit never show so that's why you can't see that comparison.

3) The naming of the upper track in Pro Tools is different due auto-synced external audio in Resolve. (which works really well by the way)

4) Stuff like this completely kills of all vibes and wants me to go do something else, putting many projects on hold. I had the same with Premiere for other reasons. It is a real pity Resolve behaves like a beta product. It could have been awesome if it actually worked.

Hi,

Interesting. Do you get any errors at import ?

I think the clips needs to be in your Media Pool (already imported in DaVinci) before you are able to import your .AAF !

Is BM aware of this major issue, resulting in unworkable AAFs?
(and mind you, this is only one of the problems with AAF)

This mayor bug, causing hours of overtime and troubleshooting for editors and sound editors that are not aware of it, still exists in 17.1.1.

I have traced the missing file error in export AAF to protools to the layered audio function in Resolve
Are you using layered audio ?

Resolve 17 provides the Timeline > Flatten Audio Track Layers command.

That is (hopefully) very helpful! (Also @Reynout) I will try that on my next AAF export. Perhaps some audio was unintentionally layered.
