Activation code

I downloaded the free version, installed it and now it's asking for the activation code and I can't find it anywhere. Also the word 'dongle' was mentioned. Was I supposed to have a dongle with this software?

Double-check and make sure you didn't download the "Studio" Version.

The Free Version is called "Davinci Resolve 17"

The Paid version is called "Davinci Resolve Studio 17"

Actually, you didn't. Only Studio requires activation.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
