Davinci Resolve do not accept Huawei P20 Mp4 video

PostSat Apr 10, 2021 5:23 am

Hi!

Davinci Resolve 17.1.1 do not display MP4 coming from my Huawei P20 cellphone. The sound is there but the picture show "Media Offline". Someone have a Fix for that?

Thank you!

I do have the Studio version of Resolve, but I've just completed a film which had several clips from my Huawei P20 Pro (H264 and H265) amidst the Blackmagic footage, so there's no inherent incompatibility (Resolve 16-17.1.1)

Cell phones aren't good options for filmmaking.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

You are probably gonna have to use Adobe Media Encoder, Handbrake(free), or something like that to convert the files.

What are the exact specs of the file? Stating what phone it was recorded on tells us nothing whatsoever about what's inside it.

Software like Mediainfo will give you details.
Resolve Studio 17.1.1
CentOS 7.3
Asus Z87, Intel Core i7-4770 3.4GHz, 24 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (450.66, supports CUDA 11.0). Old system but runs Resolve remarkably well!

It tells you a lot, because every other phone of that type will record the same media. Takes 15 seconds to find this information with Google...

And as Google helpfully points out, it can record at least five different resolution/frame rate combinations along with various other modes / options. Sadly it wasn't able to tell me which of those the OP used...

Jean-Rene,

Can I assume you're on a Windows system? H.265 playback on a Windows system depends on a couple of things.
a. Please look up the Windows HEVC codec from Microsoft.
b. If the HEVC codec is 10-bit encoded, you will additionally need Davinci Resolve Studio. The studio version also supports hardware accelerated playback and encode for supported H.264 and HEVC profiles.

Givne the dependence on hardware and OS, I would highly encourage you to detail your setup (see FAQs).

Regards
Shrinivas
