Interference on capture - Why?

PostSun Apr 25, 2021 1:41 pm

I just shot yesterday and am ingesting today and every clip has blocks of different colors popping up on the footage. The camera was the 6K and was powered by the same v-mount batteries that I use all the time. This never showed up while filming.

This ruins an entire day of shooting and is something that cannot be recreated. Any ideas why it happened?

Here is a closeup of a clip

No trying to state the obvious but have you tried checking the original files on playback in the camera or from then card via RAW viewer. I'm only saying this as the other day I had a whole set of RAW stills on a job corrupted in a similar way and was contemplating a reshoot when I discovered the corruption was in the copied files and not the originals and had been the result of a transfer glitch.

Great question. I looked at the original files on the external drive and compared them to the files I copied over. They are both exactly the same.

Holy ****. Because of your post I went and looked again at the clips and there is no glitch now. Now there is no glitch on the original when they were there before. Same drive, same cable. WTF? I will copy them over again using Hedge.

Thank you John! That was 20 minutes of me not being happy.

I honestly started thinking it had to be a loose USB connection on the motherboard because the HDMI monitor and the camera monitor never showed anything. A loose cable would completely block the image but a loose connection could have introduced the interference to the USB Drive. Unless you actually play back your recorded clip you would never see this type of interference on-set.

I am also mad at myself because I specifically purchased Blackmagic 7" 12G monitors to make ProRes backups and I never did that this time. Several lessons learned here.

This is almost always bad copy workflow from the original media.
