Fairlight Desktop Console Arrived...

PostTue Apr 27, 2021 4:34 am

I just got the desktop console, finally, and it's a high quality unit-- great faders, terrific LCD scribble strip and metering. Transport seems to work well. Install was a bit of a mystery.

You have to run the Davinci Control Panels Setup app before it will work. There is no documentation that tells you this.

Main issue so far-- It doesn't look like you can set the individual clip levels from the board. You can only ride the channel fader. This needs to be implemented. Clip levels are how most editors are going to mix. When you select a channel on the board, it should make active the clip that corresponds to that channel at that point in time and allow you to write a level set or change on the clip. That is how Davinci instructors are telling you to mix, why isn't the very expensive hardware working that way, too?

The idea behind the panel is to get you to stop making microscopic keyframes and riding levels. We need to be able to do this on the timeline, or what's the point?

I can't find a manual anywhere that explains it, either.

Build is really nice. It's a great start.

EDIT: The zoom control with the scroll wheel doesn't seem to work, either, at least in Edit mode. It does work on the Fairlight page.

Hi Michael you can adjust clip level with the jog/scroll wheel...it's one of the user function buttons on the left bottom corner..from memory holding alt while pressing them goes through the layers of functions available, and it may not be on the first layer...I think it was alt 3 and took a few presses to get to it.. but I'm a bit vague on it as I don't have one, just remember seeing it in action.

The DaVinci Resolve folder in the Applications folder includes the New Features Guide, which is also available on the Support page's Latest Support Notes column.

For the Fairlight Desktop Console's Clip Level functionality refer to:
Pages 338 - 339 | Chapter 12 | Using the Fairlight Desktop Console.

The more detailed manual, inc desktop console is almost done.

In the meantime, run the Davinci Control Panels Setup app to connect to the console.
