Davinci 17 : can't play some codecs anymore

I've been using Resolve Studio for a few years now, I think I started with version 12...
I installed the beta of 17 to try the new features.

The features are very nice, but I had some problems readings some formats : I was doing some tests with a panasonic S1H 4k 10bits, and I couldn't read the files. Only audio waveform would show, exactly like it does with free version of resolve with 10 bits files from panasonic.

Except I am running on studio, and I could read those files no problem with 16.

I thought it was because of the beta version. So I waited.
When the final release of 17 got out, I installed it, exactly the same.

I just shot another projects with A7S3 4k 10bits all-I, can't read the files.
I had to get back to 16.

Anyone else ?

What do you mean "was installed", you mean before I installed studio version ?

I always ran studio in this machine.

You can post a clip so someone can test but i dont recall removing any file support from the studio version.

A7S iii files can play for me in all versions of DR17, although I can no longer trim the all-i ones in media management which is a huge pain

like I said it happened with different cameras, S1H, A7S3...
and those exact same files work well with 16.

does installing the beta before can make trouble even when you install the final release?
of course I reinstalled version 17 several times.

what can I do ?
is there a "hard reinstall" in which I could really completely wipe out any davinci files?

Hi Victor

Please do post a link to a video clip or two that you can confirm plays well in 16 and does not in 17 on that machine.

Given this can be specific to certain platforms, please do provide some info on your OS/OS version, graphics card, drivers if applicable, monitoring devices and other peripherals, so we can try with similar enough setups.

I've been unable to use the media management tool to trim my files (without transcoding) from the Sony a7S iii (XAVC all-i, the long GOP works ok) although they play back etc fine.

I just tried downgrading to DR 16 and it works again, so there does seem to be less support for these codecs in DR17 than in DR16.

I'm running DR Studio on Windows 10, i7 Processor, GTX 2060, 32GB RAM.

It sounds like you went from the Studio version of 16 to the Free version of 17 by mistake.

You can confirm this by going to DaVinci Resolve>About.

That isnt the issue for me - I could still import, playback etc 10 bit 422 files from the a7S iii, but the media management couldnt trim them in DR17, so I've gone back to 16.

If you want this to be permanently solved, please understand: you have to provide some example material (clips/video files). BM cannot fix a problem if they cannot reproduce it and you should help the developer team by providing as much information as possible (including example clips which fails). Don't expect them to have the same camera equipment as you and do recordings with that. Too many factors to get the same result. Help them if you want them to help.

Maybe, but...I was providing that info for Victor. Your issue is not the same as his.

I have a Dell workstation under WIndows 10, GTX1070, 16GB RAM
its modest but its fine for my needs.

I cannot upload a clip as they are very large and I cant host them nor I have a good enough internet access.

Like I said its a regular FX3 clip, but it also happened for me with S1H clips, and FS7 clip.

what other information could I share for you to help ?

Confirm you installed the Studio version, Victor.

Also I mean if this happens with all the clips you shoot with those cams, you can just point the camera at the ground and film like 1 sec of video ... that would be a small file.

Those cameras were rented. Man of course if I owned them I would have done that !!
