Importing old database

PostFri Apr 30, 2021 10:13 pm

If I wasn't bald I would be tearing my hair out right now....

I have built a new editing PC and installed Resolve.

I have exported my database from my old PC and have it on the C: drive within the new PC.

I open Resolve, I click the import database icon... and Resovle asks me to create a new database every time.

What am I doing wrong? Why won't Resolve open my saved database?

Also how can I rename a database once it is created?

You should be hitting the "restore database"icon on the upper left (down arrow and a disk icon). That in turn should take you to a default location which may or may not be the location of the database. You'd navigate to the actual location and folder and select ("open"). After that, you'll be prompted to name it and specify a location.

You say "import"; are you doing the above, or something else?

Worst case, you can extract the projects from the existing database backup and paste them into a new database.

Hi John, thanks for your help.

Yes, sorry, I am clicking the Restore database icon. I then navigate to the folder with my saved database folder and click open as you say.

However rather than my project files appearing, Resolve opens the Create New Database window, asking for a name and location of a new database.

Creating a new database in this way only creates a new empty database. My projects do not appear.

Is it because I exported from 16 and am restoring into 17?

Ok I hold my hands up, I must have been doing something wrong as it worked this time. Thank you John! :-)

I feel I was confused as I have never seen the window to create a new database before, asking for a file path and giving the option to add an image. Is that new for 17?

No. Truth is, I checked it on 16 (not 17), before replying. You definitely have to rename the old database and specify a location.
