I want to hire a private tutor

PostFri Apr 30, 2021 7:00 pm

Hi, I'm Vitor.
I am from Brazil and I want to master this NLE.

This isn't as easy to find as one would imagine. I've been looking for for a while now.
Video classes do not interest me. I need questions to be answered on the spot.

I have couple of projects in mind. I have a vision for them and I just don't know how to turn my ideas into an actual final product.

I'm looking for some one who can video conference and let me "screen share" in order to guide me step by step. I'm not looking for a course. I need you tell me where I need to clickto make things happen. This is how I learn.

I can't pay you big money. But if you are interested or know some one, let me know.

Thanks =)

I guess you are looking for a more general post/editing related advice?

More of a "hold my hand and walk me through me" kind of thing. I get advice from this here forum all the time. I post questions and I get answers. It has been great. What I'm looking for now is some one to look at my screen and tell me how do I get things to work.
So for instance, I have a lot to learn regarding keyframing and masking. I have videos that I'm trying to edit and I know in my mind how I want them to turn out. I just don't know how to get it done.

I see... they seem to focus mainly on color training. Is it only that or also Fusion and Cut page as well?

You didn't specify what you wanted. Resolve is mainly a color-correction program, though it can do a lot more in terms of editing, VFX compositing, and sound mixing. You're basically asking "how can I learn to do the entire post process in Resolve?" And the answer is, consider 10,000 hours as a minimum it's going to take you for each discipline: editing, color, VFX, and sound. How much time do you have?

I think I've done color for well over 100,000 hours and I still learn new things all the time. Learning about post is a process, not a final destination.

Hello,
I do that in France, we call it "formation sur site" I doesnt teach specifically color correction (its not my main activitiy) but I teach how to use DVR with all the possibilities (media management, editing, compositing, color correction, sound mixing) and as a tool in specific worflow (Premiere or FCPX to DVR). I have a long experience of teaching, since ten years in art school and for professionals (FCPX, DVR, TouchDesigner).
I do that in normal time on work site but, since one year, I do that online.
My time is divided between teaching and artist producing video for the stage (dance and theater)

I want some one so I can share my computer screen (with Team Viewer or something) while I'm on Davinci. So the tutor would guide me through my project, telling where to click and what buttons to press according to what I'm want for the project. That is what I said on my original post.

That sound more like you want to be the producer, and need to hire an experienced editor.

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I want to become the experienced editor. This is how I learn things... I need a private tutor.

I don't think it's true that one needs a private tutor to learn things. You just need to know how to learn, which sadly is a skill missing from most education.

Once one knows the proper technology for study, learning new things becomes a lot easier.

I recommend the Beginner's Guide. ;)

Hilarious how people in this forum can never really answer anything without projecting their entire world view on people.

Colors somewhere are wrong? Blindly quote irrelevant stuff from the manual.

VLC doesn't playback something? You shouldn't use VLC.

How does metadata in mp4 work? It's a delivery container. How can you even ask? Use mov or mxf.

I want private tutor? You shouldn't need one. You must be dumb. You don't know how to learn.

What a messed up place these forums have become.

You say you can’t pay big money. I would also recommend going through the Beginners Guide first. Then if you still want/need the tutor, you will have a basic framework to start and spend less time (and therefore money) with the tutor.

That’s probably the worst way to learn.. and by asking the question you have, your approach is totally wrong. You’ll learn very little because just knowing where the buttons are won’t make you a good editor! You’ll only know answers to your limited questions without understanding why, what, when, how etc. You’ll end up like all those other juvenile YouTube editors that make as many bad decisions and unnecessary edits in their videos as they have spots on their faces!

Understanding about effects, where to find things are all in the manual.. that’s what I use it for, as a reference. That’s the easy bit!

Resolve is a complete post production tool and with each page (Edit/VFX/Colour/Audio) will require many, many hours of study/practice.

A good approach would be to set yourself a small project .. go out, shoot something/edit other people’s material then build up your skill as you learn how to put together a story etc. You’ll then be asking questions in-context and the solutions will be easier to understand. Put in the hours, read and look online at the various user videos for specific stuff as and when you need to. Watch lots of films too! (From established filmmakers).

You won’t become an editor over night - it takes lots of patience and practice. Once you’re able to construct a small story/project.. you’ll find it a thousand times easier the next time around.

There are no ‘absolute’ short cuts.

.. you’re welcome.

I've done that approach. Many times. Over and over. What I need now is a private tutor.
