media offline for only a few frames at a time?

PostFri May 07, 2021 1:21 pm

I'm working on a multicam project that I recorded with an ATEM Extreme Mini ISO to a 1TB Samsug T7. The files were copied over to an OWC Envoy Pro EX TB3 SSD, and I'm working on a MAC MINI M1 running Resolve 17.1.1. On certain clips, a few random frames at a time will show up as "Media Offline!" I've tried different cache and proxy settings, but that doesn't seem to change anything. Any ideas what might cause this?

Curious if anyone has experienced this? When I play the ISO files in question back in a different player (Quicktime), the spots that show as "Media Offline" in Resolve look like temporary freeze-frames. Nothing loses sync, it just freezes for a short duration and then continues. Any suggestions what might cause something like this?

The T7 isn't 'approved' for use the the ATEM's. It's possible you actually are missing those frames.

The Samsung T5 is the better choice.

Thanks, I suspected the T7 could be the problem. From what I can see, it actually is on the approved list: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/faq/59032

But now I know that it's potentially problematic. I've been trying to get input over on the Live Production board regarding viable options for higher data-rate SSDs, but so far it's been crickets...

Hmm. That list does suggest BMD has sorted out the T7 issue.

Maybe your ATEM needs an update?

In any event, it's still likely the current recordings are muffed.

Yep. It wasn't a problem because the BRAW files from the cameras were fine. But obviously I'd love to have a better idea of why it happened to try to avoid this problem or something worse in the future. The ATEM Extreme itself is basically brand new (well, a couple months old now) and running the latest firmware as far as I'm aware. Or at least I don't think there's been a firmware update for the Extreme yet, no? (I'm running 8.6.1 on the software side.)

I don't have the ISO, but the regular Extreme just performed perfectly for me using a T5, so...maybe that's still something to consider?

Thanks, Jim. I have a bunch of T5s for use with our P4Ks, so I'll try one of those next time and see how it goes.
