Video size

PostSun May 09, 2021 9:29 am

Hi,

I searched for this topic but did not find any solution. I need to prepare a ~30 min video of a size below 500 Mb. So far I was using mp4 (H264) and 2000 kbps on output (@1020x720). Then I processed the video with a Handbrake (Ultra Fast 720p profile, web optimized, H264) and got an m4v file below 500 Mb. Quality is OK so the goal is achieved. BUT I think that the same video can be prepared with the use of Davinci Resolve (without external processing). I'm a new user of a DR and do not use advanced options of export. Can you give me some clues about this?

Kind regards,

To combine high quality with small size, x264 is the better option over Resolve.

Handbrake uses x264, so...

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I would also recommend ffmpeg/Handbrake for optimum size/quality over Resolve.

https://codecalamity.com/encoding-uhd-4 ... th-ffmpeg/

This is a page about some guidelines for encoding for HDR specifically but there are some useful comparisons with the different encoding settings for optimum quality vs. encoding time vs. size. The settings are for ffmpeg but Handbrake uses ffmpeg internally and most of the settings are available there also.

And it's always a good idea to do your own tests with a short clip of your own footage with different settings.

So, in the simple words it is not possible to export such a small file directly from Davinci? Handbrake is the best option?
