post fix for pan stuttering?

PostTue May 11, 2021 6:40 am

Is there any post fix for image stuttering on pans shot in 23.98 1/48 sec on a Sony FX9 in UHD? Obviously go slower next time but its too late for that. Does that issue improve with broadcast or on regular video monitor as opposed to a computer monitor?

I'm guessing in the future 29.97 would be better . Would i want a slower a shutter speed? also for motion blur? there used to be a rule of thumb in film not to pan across any object faster than 7 seconds across the frame , but film was a more forgiving situation because the projector shutter opened & closed twice with each frame.

Depending on the refresh rate of your monitor it *could* look a little better on a regular monitor, but it won't fix it magically.

The only thing I can think of that you could try is faking motion blur when the pan starts.
You could do this by tracking something in the frame and use that tracker data to drive the strength of a directional blur. If you have access to Studio, I think there is an option in optical flow to create vectors that drive a blur as well.

Try to slow it down and use Optical Flow with Speed Warp. I had very good results with it in a similar case.
