Question about editing and grading proxy files.

PostSun May 16, 2021 5:12 pm

Hey guys, I’m currently using SONY FX3 and record both original and proxy files during shooting.
Can anyone teach me how to edit the proxy files and color grading the original files?
I don’t know how to switch between proxy and original files while doing editing and color grading’
I would appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Import the originals. You can right click on those from the bin and Link Proxy Media...

There are some conditions that must be met for that to work. If it doesn't, then skip the camera proxies and generate them from within Resolve.

If you choose a high enough quality Proxy, you can use them even for Color work.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Download the guide to new features of Resolve 17, and see pages 19-21, which describe the procedure. In your case, with the camera producing both originals and proxies, there shouldn't be any difficulty linking the proxies to the originals. You'll be able to switch between the proxies and originals, for either editing or grading, at any time.

If you're running 16, this becomes more difficult with externally created proxies, as in your case. You'd need to need to relink to the originals, for grading.
