If I revert to an older version of Resolve (i.e. by first uninstalling my current version), are there any precautions I can / should take to avoid losing global settings, file paths, database locations, and other preferences?
Or is all of that taken care of the registry (or other means)?
Are you thinking of going from 17 to 16? If so your 17 database will not be compatible with 16. Otherwise going to an earlier version of 17 will not be a problem.
Resolve Studio 20.0 build 49 Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790, 24GB RAM, 2 x Evo SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (572.16 Studio Driver), Win10 Home, Speed Editor, Faderport 1, Calibrated Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ & Samsung monitors for UI, Canon C100mk2, Zoom H2n.
As OP, I can (now) confirm it's possible to completely uninstall v17.2 (on Windows 10), restart the machine, and reinstall v17.2 from scratch without losing preferences, paths, or any other system or user settings.

Hoping this helps others with the same question."
Thank you - as I have some strange behaviours on my Davinci Resolve 17 (waveforms not showing, unable to edit some timelines at all). Will try uninstall / reinstall.
So if one does have a copy of the 16.xxx database and wants to revert to 16 from 17: can you point me to instructions for how to do so? Or tell me how? Thanks so much.
That's not something I've tried so I'm unable to offer any guidance.
But I believe your query will get the attention it deserves if you start your own thread. Right now it's tacked on to the end of a thread that's only quasi-related to your specific challenge.
