Deinterlace vs. Remove 3:2 pulldown

PostFri May 21, 2021 3:07 am

I have a bunch of 29.97 fps clips in the 23.98 fps project. When I open Clip Attributes to enable deinterlace it is not there with Remove 3:2 pull down in its place. My clips weren't telecined originally so there is no pulldown. They are just straight NTSC video. How do I deinterlace them in Resolve 17.1?

If it were me, I would pull all the 29.97 interlaced clips into a 29.97P project, select de-interlace on all of them, then render them out as 29.97P. Bring those transcoded clips into the 23.98 project and choose Optical Flow -> Better, and see how they look.

If you have 29.97 video clips of a 23.98 telecine film transfer, god help you. That stuff always looks terrible. Try a few things and see what happens.

Thank you, Marc, for the suggestion but Deinterlace is not available in the 29.97 fps project either, only Remove 3:2 pulldown. Where Resolve is getting the idea from that this footage was telecined? Is there a tag in metadata?
