Newbie: Screen Dialogs don't match the manual

PostThu May 20, 2021 9:48 pm

I just installed DaVinci Resolve Studio for the first time, with version 17.2 build 11 on 64-bit Windows 10. I watched the Introduction to Editing video and have consulted the Resolve 17 Reference Manual. However, the responses I get in the program don't match those in either the video or the manual. I have activated the license key I received with purchase of a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. I understood that it is supposed to be a full license of the Studio product ("All Pocket Cinema Camera models include a full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio ..."). I assume I'm missing something in the setup process, but I can't find what that might be.

For my first video I'm trying to do a variable clip speed edit. I have a 15 minute clip that I'm speeding up to 330%, except for three short sections that I want to keep at 100%. When I right click on the clip in the timeline, I see only 10 options, instead of the 28 options I see in the video. One of the options is Speed Change, but when I click on that I don't get the pop-up dialog box that the manual and video show. All I see is a field under the preview window with a speed number and a duration. I can change the speed number to 3.3 to get a 330% speed, but I can't find any way to then edit the speed change for the sections I want to set back to 100%. The manual says to right click on the clip and select Retime Controls, or press CTRL-R to get the Retime Controls. There is no option for Retime Controls with the right click and CTRL-R does nothing. On the Clip menu drop down Retime Controls and many other options are grayed out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I did eventually figure that out after I posted. Embarrassing!

Not embarrassing, if you don't make mistakes you don't learn.

I'm new to DR, I have to use the mistakes excuse quite a lot at the moment :)
