Battery issue

PostTue Sep 03, 2013 10:47 am

Hi Blackmagic,

My stock battery was at 99%, so I kept my ac adapter connected, but then later when I check, it's 97%.

Later than afternoon(Edit: Adapter unplugged after checking it at 97%), when I turned on my camera again, there's only 47% battery left, and I never used or turned on the camera during that period.

Is this a known issue or is my camera faulty?

Thanks.

Regards,
Shung

Edit: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, sorry for omitting this most important part. :D

Can you confirm the charger is working? E.g. use a voltmeter to test its output?

Pocket camera? 2.5K doesn't show battery life in those increments, so I'll assume you mean the Pocket Camera...

Could be the adapter, not the camera. How does the camera work? Charged battery and recording does the camera work alright?

Does this happen if the charger is NOT attached?

If you are, using battery that came with the Pocket Camera, it does not last very long, about half of what a Nikon battery will do. Most cameras draw power while battery is in it, even if turned off. Mine did same thing with BM battery, Nikon Battery only goes down 10% during non use overnight.

The fast draining took place when the adapter was NOT attached.

Camera and recording worked fine, but comparing to my Lumix cameras, this Pocket camera drains battery pretty quickly, twice or maybe 3 times as fast.

Also it gets quite warm after being switched on for a short while.

Similar experience with BM battery. It was down to 47%, and I have not charged it since. After more than 12 hours I turned the camera on and the camera says battery is 41%, draining rate dropped.
