Sound is not working (v17.2)

PostSun May 23, 2021 6:56 pm

Good day,

I have a problem with the application. I can't hear any sound. Even when the indicators display, that sound is working. Buttons behave weirdly in the bar there are no icons of them empty frames. You can see it in the screenshots I sent.

I tried to reinstall the whole DaVinci Resolve, and it didn't work. The last application that I instaled before it broke was Streamlabs.

Does anybody have the same problem? Is there any solution?

Thank you.

Go to Preferences>System>Video and Audio I/O>Speaker Setup and report the setting.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Good day,

As you can see in a new picture, my default sound output is Speakers connected to ASUS XONAR U7 MKII. I tried to change it to my TV, where the sound goes through HDMI, and the sound worked. Is there any problem with the sound card? But it worked before.

There are some huge sound bugs in 17.2. Bluetooth audio isn't working at all.

Looks the same as yours. Doesn't matter if you use system settings in the Audio-I/O tab, or actually choose the device, which in your case seems to be recognized with the system setting as well.

BMD really needs to work on the fast!

Petr, any particular reason for using the Xonar? Have you tried setting it up manually in the Preferences settings? These are my settings using the computers Realtek interface.

Hello,

To Andreas Eymannsberger
So can we expect some kind of patch for this problem in the future?

To Charles Bennett
I like using XONAR because of the very easy switch between speakers and headphones (I don't need to reconnect devices every time I switch them). It also has a headphones amplifier which is a nice feature. Nevertheless, it has a 24bit/192kHz sampling frequency. The last reason, when I bought XONAR, I want to use it. :D

I've found that traditional analog/digital connections are more reliable than USB audio devices.

I don`t know if it's the same in Windows as OS X, but would expect the architecture to be similar enough.

Is Resolve dealing with anything beyond your Windows audio system driver, or does everything go via the OS? Doesn't Windows take care of the Bluetooth connection on it's end out to the speakers? If Resolve sees the device, plays back, you have signal on the meters and input to the computer side of things, I would think that's all Resolve can do. No?

I do know that on both my Mac systems, setting the audio to "system" did not work, I had to manually select the correct device (even though it was the system device) and channel assignment. Everything worked fine once I did that.

Lastly, I think Jim has a good point that Bluetooth (and USB) is probably not the ideal setup for working with professional audio. Looks really cool though with no wires!

Cheers,
Thor

I have had this same problem (no audio output although meters are moving) intermittently since upgrading to 17.2
Workaround for me is to open a different project and then reopen the original.

So is it possible that it will repair when I downgrade? Do you have a link to the previous version?

You will need to either stay with any earlier flavor of 17, or start the project over if you downgrade to 16.

I found an old installation on my computer (v17.1.1), and the sound is working! So it's an issue of 17.2.

I have been able to isolate this to a routing problem, or touring possibilities as a better form of describing it, as it is not mis-routed, but lacking options.

Resolve 14.2 (as well as Windows) recognize the Creative Sound Bar. On two machines, no problem.
There is a bus, and level on the main output and a Bus 1.

The problem seems to be that under routing options, I can't tell Bus 1 to go to output. At least there are no outputs listed that I could choose from with routing. That makes sense?

No problem with audio here. Starting a new project everything is routed as it should be and works. Pic shows the routing I get without doing anything after opening a new project.

Hi Petr

Can you provide a more detailed breakdown of your hardware and OS? (Please refer to the FAQs). Please include information on your soundcard, driver, system sample rates and project sample rates.

Can you go to the Help menu > create diagnostic log archive and provide a shareable link to the log archive created?

Thanks

Another thing I found is that it might be the Windows 10 Bluetooth driver sample rate (or the lack of options therefore). Mine runs at 44100 khZ and I have no otion in my windows driver to change it to 48000 kHz.

Is this the issue so Resolve doesn't actually show outputs one could successfully route to hear anything, despite Resolve recognizing the hardware (and therefore driver)?

Although I agree that in theory it is less than ideal to have BT audio, I can't see why it would have stopped working with a major stable update when it was supported before. Does seem more like a bug than with intention?

Hello Mr Shrinivas,

I needed to finish my last project, so I worked with the 17.1.1 version. This version works fine. I saw today that there is a new update of Davinci (17.2.1). I installed it today and hoped that it would work, but unfortunately the problem is still there. In this post, I sent you a file with diagnostics data created in DaVinci Resolve 17.2.1.

Sincerely

Petr Hamza

Hi Petr

A more detailed description of hardware, OS, audio I/O - including sample rates for media/project/OS interfaces would help us check the issue here. Without the info, our recommendation is still the these generic steps:

a. please match sample rates between the project and OS output and if possible between media and project.

b. please toggle the Windows audio setup twice - e.g from Auto to Manual and back to Auto - to reset any potential issues from cached settings.

We use a Xonar U7 MKII in some testing without seeing an issue, so it would be good to compare context.

Good day, Mr Shrinivas,

I installed v17.2.2 today, and everything works fine. So let's say this issue has been solved. Thank you for your cooperation.
