Program crashing!

PostFri May 28, 2021 8:13 pm

I am auditioning the free version of Resolve 17 and it keeps crashing for no discernible reasons and at what seems to be random times. Is this common? My computer specs are:

Windows 10 Pro
Processor: Intel i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-H GAMING
RAM: 32 GB

Is there any other information I could provide to help troubleshoot this?
Thank you,
.....Gord

Thank you for the help! I generated the log and uploaded it to Dropbox. This is the link to that file:

I'm not sure what else to do with it. Is there someone specific to send it to?

Try disabling Crossfire.

The free version of Resolve can only utilize one GPU. For multiple GPUs you need the Studio version.
Resolve Studio 20.0 build 49

I have the same problem. The program is randomly crashing and freezing after 2min. It's really frustrating.
I have one GPU: AMD Radeon Graphics 512MB RAM
AMD Ryzen 4000series
Windows 10
Does anyone know what the problem is?

I tried that, Jim, and it didn't make any difference that I can see. Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it. I hate to give up on this program but I don't know what to try next. It's strange if it's only happening on my computer!

Thank you for trying to help, Charles. I disabled the Crossfire and still have the same problem. Are you suggesting that I have to remove one of the GPU cards? I can't imagine how that would help. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

That graphic card is unlikely to work as it has too little RAM

Can you post your NFO and logs again with the crossfire disconnected and if you have more than one monitor make sure they are all on the same GPU.

It was working on my old laptop though with only 125mb ram. It was an intel ghd graphics gpu. I did not buy an extra gpu. I am using the one already built in.

Is it possible that davinci resolve does not work with certain kinds of gpu. In this case amd graphics?
And if thats the problem, what can I do?

The very minimum requirement is for the GPU to have at least 2GB of vram.

Sorry for the dumb question but I’m not a computer hardware geek. Does hooking the two cards together with the crossfire give me the 2 GB that I need to make this work? Or do I need to get a new card?
Also, if I buy a new card is 4GB enough memory or will I soon regret not going for more? Money is just a little tight right now.
Thank you again for the assistance!

I found the problem.
If you click on davinci resolve on the left, go to preferences under memory and gpu, your limit fusion memory cache to has to be at least 1.9GB
My limit resolve memory usage to is on the highest 5.5GB
It imidiatly worked, no crashes.

I dont know if i should already do this :D
But it really was a relief

Gord, I don't know about the Crossfire, But you can use multiple GPUs only in the Studio version of Resolve. Vram is not cumulative however, so having say two 2GB cards will still only give you 2GB in total.
As to a new GPU I would try to go with one that has 8GB. If all you intend editing is HD 4GB may be enough.

Thank you so much, Charles! This gives me a lot to think about. Unfortunately, in my area Video Cards are very hard to find right now but I will keep looking. Thank you again, sir. Much appreciated!!!
