Edit to Fusion Page Transition issue

PostFri May 21, 2021 12:52 pm

Hello,

Upon updating to 17.2, I've noticed a few oddities when it comes to the User Transitions I had created in Fusion for the Edit page and how creating said transitions work now.

Previously, all I would need to do is apply a cross dissolve in the Edit Page, convert it into a Fusion dissolve, then open it in the Fusion Page. Fusion would then have both pieces of Media alongside the transition, whereby I could then create personalized effects for it, bring it back into the Edit page, and save it underneath a User setting in my Effects Library. These saved transitions weren't .setting files, so I believe they just lived in the background in a way.

In 17.2, however, all of my User Transitions have been deleted, and when I try the same workaround to develop them as before, the delivery to the Fusion page only provides one piece of media and no transition. I'm assuming this is a bug, otherwise it makes no sense to allow us to convert transitions on the edit page for Fusion only to not allow us to bring them into Fusion afterwards.

Has anyone else had this issue or found a workaround? Any insight would be much appreciated!

My computer is a iMac Pro 2017,
OS Catalina 10.15.7,
2.5 GHz 14-Core Intel Xeon W,
Radeon Pro Vega 64 16 GB

The Resolve version is 17.2

Did you maybe update from Studio 17.1 to Free 17.2 accidentally?

I also have the same issue, but only after updating from 17.1 to 17.2 (free version both times). It seems like DaVinci is unable to add the second media input for the fusion transitions (even it's own base fusion crossfade).

I was thinking the same thing, so I made sure to uninstall and reinstall 17.2 Studio, yet the problem persists.

Interestingly enough, I reinstalled back to 17.1 Studio and the user transition presets I had created beforehand showed back up in my Edit Page effects library. So as long as I'm on 17.1 they are there, but going back to 17.2 studio causes them to disappear and no longer have the ability to create them.

I'm experiencing the same bug. I can no longer create Fusion transitions on the Edit Page in 17.2. I know I'm using the Studio version, so there's no downgrade/upgrade shenanigans to confuse matters.

Steps to reproduce:

• Right-click on an edit point on the edit page

• Select "Add X Frame Cross Dissolve" from the dropdown

• Select the transition, Right Click on it, and choose "Convert to Fusion Cross Dissolve" from the dropdown.

• Right-click on the transition and select "Open in Fusion Page" from the dropdown.

There's no longer a second Media In, no transition, and no way to add one, because adding a Media In manually only "sees" the first video stream.

One workaround is to apply any of the pre-built transitions instead, open that in the Fusion Page, delete everything that's not a Media IN or Out, and rebuild whatever effect you're after.

The easiest workaround is to replace the standard resolve transition with a transition from the Effects Library Fusion Transitions presets.

The DaVinci Resolve 17.2.1 update has a fix for converting cross transitions to Fusion transitions.

Perfect! I'm now able to create transitions again through converting!

The only problem I seem to be having now is "Create Transition Preset" will only save the transition until I close DaVinci; restarting the program will make all of my saved presets disappear. I'm not sure if this is an intended feature (or a studio-only feature) or just a bug, but it's super frustrating to recreate transitions every time I need to use one.

Yet the bug still persits: After restarting DR the User presets are gone from the list. However if I set them as a Favorite there are still in the Favorites section and I can use them. Strange! Can't find them on my hard drive either.

Please fix!

after creating click the star to make it a favorite. Should be still there after restart.

CORRECTION: gone after restart :(

I tried making a preset from one of the Fusion Transitions and it doesn't save between restarts. You can save any changes you made as a new Fusion Transition though and that will work just fine. The video below goes over how to create your own Transitions.

RTX-3060 12 GB | Resolve Studio 18.6.6| Fusion Studio 18.6.6

Any news/ potential fixes yet to saving custom transitions between restarts?
