DR17-Studio; Cannot add video files (.braw) to media page

PostFri Jun 04, 2021 1:41 pm

Hi,
Unfortunately I cannot add video-files anymore to the media page because some are not visible in the media storage window anymore. The problem seems to revolve around braw.-files. MOV-files are always visible.

Sometimes all braw-files from a disc-folder are visible, sometimes none. The problem applies to all hard-discs (not one in particular). When I try to drag and drop the braw.-files from windows-explorer directly into the media page it does't work either. Cannot tell if the problem already existed before or after the latest DR17-update.

Does anyone have an idea what may be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

All storage is internal and local? (No externals, no networks?)

All storage is on internal discs. Disk-D is the back-up of disk-E. Sometimes I can see the braw.-files within Davinci only from disk-d but not not from disk-e (in the Davinci media-storage-window). Sometimes I cannot see the braw.-files on either of the two even though they are definetely visible and accessible via windows-explorer.

OK.

Man, I don't have any idea what might cause that.

Going back to basics, this is a dedicated editing system? No games, office, email, security, development, etc. is installed?

You're not using any kind of auto-backup on the relevant folders?

These aren't Dropbox, One Drive or other such folders?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Problem is new, max 1-2 days. I work fulltime with Davinci (nearly every day for months). I have not changed my system. No Dropbox, One Drive or other such folders exist. Everything local. I have extra external hard discs as backups but I am not talking about those. Only change this week was the update of DR17.

Hello Jim,

Thanks for trying. Finally after some hours of search I found the reason. DR 17.2.1 cannot see the braw-files because the braw-file-names exceed a certain limit. In my case ca. 10 to 12 words (i.e. 70-80 letters). Even though they appear in Win 10pro, it depends on the brand-name of the disk whether I can change the file-name in Win10pro, after it was created. For SSD SAMSUNG 870 EVO (4GB) this doesnt work anymore after ca. 60 letters. With my Toshiba hdd it is still possible.
Hope you give this bug to your SW Engineers to solve. The braw-files should be always visible in the media-storage-window (at least up to 100 letters).

Greetings
Valentino

Wait a minute.

You're changing the name of the media files on the hard drive?!

No of course not. I mean when I name the braw-files on the ssd/hdd-drives before they are inserted into the media page. This time the name was unusually long and therefore they didnt apper in DR17.

Yeah, that's what I asked.

Don't. Like...ever.

My philosophy, anyway. ;)

Well, I still wonder whether you understand :-). I record all footage on an external ssd. And on one day this can comprise > 100 clips. Of course I give them a proper (self-explanatory) name before inserting them into a new DR17-project. Or what do you suggest?
