Audio Settings for 1.4.1?

PostTue Sep 03, 2013 9:52 pm

Wondering what settings people are using with firmware 1.4.1?

As far as I can tell from searching the forums looks like these settings might be good but am just getting around to doing some testing today (updated thx to the replies):

Microphone input: 0%
CH 1 and Ch 2 input levels: Mic
Ch 1 input: 80%
Ch 2: 80%

and then apply the low end fix in post that is explained here thx to JuicedLink:

Also, does anyone have experience running a sennheiser wireless g2 or g3 into the bmcc. I'd like to use line level if I can.

That looks wrong, microphone input should 0% when recording with an external mic.

You might mean headphone output instead?

Hi Jules,
The Juicedlink video I linked to says the best dynamic range for recording audio into the bmcc is setting the mic input level to 80%.

I have the headphone level @ 100%

Also, if you were to use mic level @ 0% wouldn't you just use line level instead? Since line level is 0 gain and line level seems to have a better response curve according to the JL vid.

Jules btw, that workshop you're doing seems pretty cool too bad I'm in L.A. instead of London or I'd join.

Hi Woody,

My settings are, I'm on firmware 1.2.1

Microphone input: 0%
CH 1 and Ch 2 input levels: Mic
Ch 1 input: 50%
Ch 2: 50%

I don't have an active pre-amp like the Juicedlink, I use a passive adaptor. Microphone input on my camera refers to internal mic, hence off.

Cheers, filming going well, nothing like getting out there and constantly filming and challenging yourself.

Microphone input, from what I can tell, is for the internal camera mic only. It is automatically off when connections is made from external jacks-- and if external mic is not on by mistake, but plugged in, you get a silent track. I made the error early on that I thought microphone input would have affect with external mics connected, but that, as far as I can tell, is not the case.

Use and external preamp and get it as high as possible. With my Juiced Link CX231, I turn it up as high as I can, and set camera inputs at around 18 to 24%. Seems to provide a clean track that can be raised in post.

Obviously you need to monitor out of camera with the headphones to detect whether you are clipping the signal from the preamp in the camera.

Ok Thx guys that clears it up. So mic input is the internal mic. So then the juicedlink video meant that the best dynamic range for firmware 1.3+ is 80% he meant the channels not the microphone input that makes sense.
