How do I generate (or link) proxy for PNG-Sequences?

PostMon Jun 07, 2021 9:32 am

Everytime I try this, an error occurs: "Proxy media failed to generate for the following files".
I generating low-res PNG-sequences an tried to link them, but Resolve says:"Invalid Proxy Selected".

Maybe just render out a DNx or ProRes file of the image sequence and use that instead?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

That would be a huge drawback in my workflow, as I create image sequences in C4D and simply can replace them if changes occur. Rendering image sequences offers the option to pause and resume the render queue in C4D.

Unfortunately, that function is still immature.
Maybe you can find an image sequence format that runs better on your hardware? Or you could always use caching.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

What I'm hearing from others is that low res images are often rendered out of effects software for editing, with the full res renders occurring at the end. Might that work?

I’d try .EXR. Cinema and Fusion are both usually fairly content with it, with more quirks on the Fusion side. Resolve’s had some issues with .PNG in fairly recent versions. And if generating proxies in Resolve gave me problems, I’d try another app; handbrake, ffmpeg, Compressor, AME, whatever floats your boat because you should be able to link them in Resolve regardless of whatever created them. Plus, that keeps Resolve free to edit.

But take this advice with a grain of salt; I haven’t tried it since the ability was added in R17, and generating proxies from the media pool has been convenient/successful enough for me.
