Creating a mask from animations frames

PostMon Jun 07, 2021 10:57 pm

I have a simple animated video that used black silhouettes on a white background, created with cut paper and a light table so the white is not totally flat. I was hoping to create a mask with the animation so that I can have a back ground video show though were the black animated images are moving and have another video replace the white background. I know how to key frame either just the white or black but I really just want to use the animation as two masking layers for two videos.

Is this possible.

Thanks

Yes. Make yourself familiar with luminance keying, the node system and the alpha channel in Resolve.
It's very powerful, but you'll need to be prepared for some learning.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks, this helps a lot, now I know what to search for when trying to find info.
I have only used the colour page key functions and not fusion yet so this should help.

Export the matte with alpha then import it into Resolve as a matte. The matte can then be attached to the clip which will create both the positive and the negative.

Good Luck

You can also use the matte directly in the Edit page as basically a Track Matte. In the video below I explain how to do it, just make sure you use luma.

Win 10 Home | Intel i7 - 10700f 64 GB 1 TB GB SSD 2 TB SSD
RTX-3060 12 GB | Resolve Studio 18.6.6| Fusion Studio 18.6.6

Win 10 Home | Intel Core I7-7700HQ 32 GB 1 TB NVME SSD 1 TB SATA SSD
GTX-1060-6GB | Resolve 17.4.6
