Interlaced video issues.

PostTue Jun 08, 2021 4:31 pm

Hi guys!
Im surely missing something here so maybe you can point me in the right direction. First, after importing media and creating timeline, option for enable interlace processing in master settings stays greyed out. Maybe it should be like that, i dunno, i need answers. Second, why the hell interlaced footage is showing progressive field dominance in clip details?! Same footage in mediainfo is displayed correctly. Also i think it messes up timeline when i import it and let it change timeline settings. Picture seems ok but playback is 25fps and if i use lets say tracking on power window to blur something it moves very choppy. I can however create a new project set things manually and then import and it is fine. All this is on ver 17.2.1 on PC but i've noticed it since 17 but that dont mean it was'nt there before i just observed at this time.
Send help please.

deinterlacing requires studio version
- and turn off "interlace processing" in project settings.
this will tell resolve to process the timeline in field mode - so all the footage will also be processed by fields, interlaced or not.

Thanks George for trying but i think you didnt understand what im asking here. I have the studio version offcourse and the problem is, as shown in the screenshot, that the option is greyed out.

May I suggest: Make a new project, set project settings to your master format and deinterlace quality option, then copy timelines and bins from your old project.
Once project frame rate has been set to 50i, as in your case, it cannot be changed anymore. a new project might well be the the only option.
another suggestion:
if the dnxhd footage still shows up as progressive, try to re-encode into a different format, with adobe media encoder, such as dnxhr, perhaps a bug in the metadata.

Thanks again George!
I've tried that before only ending with timeline thats double the speed it should be. Also, the file itself is not a problem its that resolve is detecting these files incorrectly. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they are exported from avid? I don't have problems with files from adobe...

avid.... yeah sketchy
another suggestion, instead of doing an export, do a video mixdown and locate the mxf in the avid mediafiles folder, that will import directly into resolve.

also: if you copy a timeline from another project into a new project it retains the original frame rate. there is no automatic frame rate conversion. the workaround copy all clips from the old timeline and paste into a new empty timeline.
You shouldn't get a project with double the frame rate. Once you set up the frame rate in the new project to what you want it is locked in.

O wow you went deep into the rabbit hole and it worked! Great solution for later if i come across this kind of files again and realize after cc is done :P Thanks George! About exporting, thats not my thing i just get files from the client, get my cc done and move on. Still i might write to support because i think that there is something wrong with the int/prog recognition (i mean look at the screenshot where in one place it says 1080i and below, progressive...).
