Editing on SD card?

So I've watched multiple videos on how to make DR smoother when editing (playback).

I thought I saw that using an external hard drive will help make playback smoother somewhere, so I bought an SD card and now it is in my laptop.

My question is, how can I use this SD card to make things smoother? Do I put my original videos that I plan on editing on the SD card? do I put optimized media on the SD card? any suggestions are appreciated!

Never use memory cards for active storage. Get an external SSD drive.

I wish I had confused. I actually didn't know the difference. So there is absolutely no benefit to having this SD in my laptop? It can't be manipulated to even give say a small margin of efficiency to editing without lag?

Nope, but you can use it for project backups. And then, to give you any advice regarding smooth editing on your laptop, you'll need to give all technical details, GPU in particular.

What's even more confusing is that they're actually both solid state and they both use the same fundamental storage mechanism. But that's kind of like saying that a Tesla and a golf cart are both electric vehicles and they both use batteries.
