Should I upgrade to the new AMD Radeon Pro W6600

PostSat Jun 26, 2021 10:16 pm

I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU. Currently, it's a Radeon RX 580. I'm on a mac, so can only consider AMD.
What are the advantages of a workstation card over a gaming card? The specs to my laymens' eyes are better on the RX580. But is there something I'm missing about workstation GPUs that make them better for Resolve?

There is zero benefit from workstation GPUs when using Resolve.
It all comes down to available VRAM and raw compute power. That of high end gaming cards easily match workstation ones for a much better price.

The only consideration would be for usually more stable drivers but not a guarantee of course.

Investing in a RX 6000 Series GPU is probably the better option (if mac supports it).

In my experience we got a very reliable card in the 580 with very stable drivers (in MacOS), the newer ones seem to have more problems if you look around here in the forum. A few minutes less waiting for rendering may not outweigh the time you spend locating driver problems.

Thanks, guys for your replies. Perhaps I'll just invest in a second RX580. Does resolve support dual GPU?
