Windows Defender Flagged Resolve Studio 17.2.2 Update File

PostThu Jul 01, 2021 6:18 pm

Windows Defender (antivirus) flagged DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_17.2.2_Windows.exe as an 'unrecognized app.' After scanning the file with two antivirus programs (no warnings), I went ahead and ran the update with no problems. That said, Windows Defender must be noticing something unexpected or missing ... and where I have never seen this warning before, I'm passing my experience along to whoever might be interested.

Yes, Windows Defender flagged DR Studio 17.2.2 for me too when I tried to install it. I've never had this happen before so something is off with this upgrade.

I am not installing it until we hear from Blackmagic Design.

Same when I tried to install 17.2.2 update.
Got the following message.

"Windows protected your PC
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk.

DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_17.2.2_Windows.exe

As it was downloaded from the Blackmagic website as per usual, I just clicked "Continue anyway". There is nothing "off" about it. No problems here. This probably comes from the latest Windows update.

Having the same issue. It's probably nothing, but I also would like to hear something official. I can't risk accidental malware or bugged installs. I had trouble with a corrupted database before and would prefer not to have to restore anything again.
It's also the first time that Windows blocked Resolve for me.

I use Bitdefender for antivirus and it reported the 17.2.2 download as clean.

It's almost certainly a false positive from MS Defender and nothing to do with BMD.

We have a new signing app and its not registered on some virus scanners yet. If its from the BMD web site id ignore and carry on.

In the meantime we’re following it up with our vendor and Microsoft to resolve the false alarm from Microsoft’s side?
