Unable to run PugetBench for Davinci Resolve

PostSun Jul 04, 2021 8:57 pm

Hi, and thanks in advance for any insight you can give! I have a system from Puget actually, but surprisingly I've never been able to successfully run their benchmark and I'm now looking to see what some hardware upgrades could do for me. So I'd love to be able to complete a run and see some results.

I'm running Resolve Studio 17.2.2 build 4 and PugetBench 0.92.2. I went through the troubleshooting steps on Puget's page for the benchmark, including reinstalling Windows.

What happens is that nearly as soon as the benchmark starts and gets to the "Loading Resolve project" step, I get the error that Resolve quit unexpectedly. I'm hoping that someone much more knowledgeable can see what's happening in the logs so that I might fix it.

Here is a link to a Google Drive folder with my system and driver info, as well as the crash logs. The first entry from today, July 4, is a good example of the benchmark attempting to run.

Puget suggested I come here after trying to reinstall Windows, so here's hoping! Thanks,
Nathan

Hi

The crashes seem to indicate stability issues in the CUDA stack. You may want to reinstall the Nvidia studio driver using Custom > clean install - and restart your system to rule out remnant issues. If you have Windows updates for drivers on, that may be a candidate.

If you have multiple displays, please also ensure that they are connected to a single GPU.

Thank you for taking a look Shrinivas, I did the clean install of the Studio driver as you suggested but unfortunately I still get the same error. I only have the one display.

I wonder what it could be about my system, especially after reinstalling Windows?

Solution: for whatever reason, deselecting the checkbox for "NVIDIA" under Preferences, Decode, "decode H.264/H.265 using hardware" did the trick.

I left the check there for decode using hardware, but unchecked the box under it that said "NVIDIA". Who knew? Hopefully this will help someone else!
