cannot navigate back to higher-level folders

PostWed Jul 07, 2021 2:45 pm

Hello,

I cannot navigate back to higher-level folders in the Project Manager,
when i´m in Thumbnail View

To get back I have to click on the folder line above.

Can't you just integrate a back button in the project manager ?!

Link "One Folder up" or "Back"

Thanks a lot

What do you mean by "higher level folders" in the Project Manager?

For example:

I have a folder called "Projects 2021" in it are the folder "Festivals" "Teaser" "Music Videos". And in the Teaser folder are the Projects "A" "B" and "C"

I would then like to simply have a button next to the folder that can be used to return to the higher-level folder with one click.

Are we talking about the same thing? Can't say I've ever seen folders in the Project Manager. If you can, post a screen shot.

i only wish a "Button" maybe called "Up" or "Back" not only the Path on Top, which was on the Bottom left side in earlier Versions, to navigate back between my folders.

LOL, totally agree! I spent several ridiculous minutes the other day trying to figure out how to navigate back up the folder tree... was about to Google it but then noticed the path in white, and lo-and-behold that's the "hidden" magic control, which requires a double-click (actually just a single). Very MacOS, I guess... but sheesh. Supporting the standard multimedia "back" button wouldn't hurt either (like one might use to navigate back/forward in browser history).

R-click in the Projects pane of a selected database and choose "New Folder..."

For me, on Windows, I just need to click once on the name of the parent folder.

You're right, just a single click will do it here also.

Still not intuitive to me, especially since there are already a bunch of buttons on that toolbar and the path text gives no indication that it's an active control (terrible UX). Also if the Projects pane is too narrow, the path gets shortened with "..." in the middle and then there's no way to navigate except back to the root Projects folder.

I see that. I've never gone more than 1 level deep with folders. I think I'm in the minority in that I create a new database for every new related group of projects. I This is stored on a dedicated hard drive for the project/client along with the associated media.

I have a 5 drive bay installed in my computer so I can just plug in bare SATA drives when I need them.

I just did a test. Looks like you can go pretty deep as long as the project manager window is wide enough.

For a lot of reasons, we avoid doing folders-within-folders-within-folders for Projects. We have a project, and then -- on rare occasions -- we'll have one folder for a complicated session where there were a ton of versions or promos or dailies that were all part of one thing.

We tend to do Client_Name_Project_Name for the name of each database. If we have a regular client, we'll do Client_Name_Year, and then the individual projects on that database. Very simple and easy and everybody can find it, in case we need to go back and look at something old that was already shipped.

For my workflow and I see I'm not alone, it would be nice to have a simple button with which you can navigate back in the folder structure.

Why are so many trying to talk about the current state of being "beautiful" and tell me that it is okay.

In my opinion, the current state is simply confusing and user-unfriendly.

While I stumbled over that too, I begin to like it. Less clutter and pretty elegant, just not so obvious.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
