Failure to boot Resolve 17 after update

PostFri Jul 02, 2021 11:42 am

Hi there,

Since the update I've been unable to boot up Resolve 17, I launch the app, it gets stuck at the "Loading Fairlight Engine" part of the sequence and either freezes and crashes, or I have to force quit it.

I've tried the solution I found online of setting the Graphics to "power saving mode" in windows but that just causes a GPU error at the end of the sequence and I've tried all of the combination of settings from auto and manual and still no luck.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the previous version and downgrading to 16 but it's still not working.

I'm a laymen when it comes to PC lingo but I'm using a Dell with up to date drivers and the Processor is and Intel Core i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3408 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) and have a
AMD Radeon(TM) R5 340X GPU

I'd really appreciate the help.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Your NFO file is blank. Please generate another one and send a link to it.

The NFO file should be around 2MB in size, or larger. When you generate the NFO, double click it to open it in your System Information app, and make sure it actually opens, and that there is data in it.

I had a similar issue after the update and just uninstalling idn't fix it for me - i had to manually delete folders from my C drive as well as registry entries - restarted computer, reinstalled and it fixed the problem for me.

I can't tell from the NFO which model of Dell Optiplex 7040 you have, and exactly what graphics are in it.

Can you send a picture of the rear of the unit, that shows where the display(s) are plugged in?

Do you have 1 or 2 displays connected?

Hi Dwaine,

I currently have two displays working, 1 connected HDMI to HDMI and the other DP1 to DVI and haven't changed it since getting Resolve

sorry this pic isn't great the tower is in a really awkward spot in the office:

The silver card in the 2nd slot down, with the DVI connector: does it have another connector, likely a DisplayPort connector, beneath those cables?

Disconnect both displays from where they are currently connected, and connect one of them to the silver card DP connector, and see if that solves the issue. If so, and you want both displays connected, they both need to be connected to the silver card (which is the main AMD Radeon R5 340X GPU). You may need a an adapter or different cable to be able to use the DVI connector.
