No video preview/playback

PostThu Jul 08, 2021 8:51 pm

Hello. I have updated everything I can think of |(BIOS, chipset, display drivers, DaVinci). When I start resolve, it loads up fine but when I move a video into the project, it doesn't display any thumb nail, it doesn't allow me to preview it or play it, it basically doesn't function at all in regards to the added video. I have included a log report from Resolve and a screenshot of what it looks like when I add a video.

Free or Studio version of Resolve? What is the source of your video?
If the video is 10bit and you are using the free version it will not open. 10bit requires the Studio version of Resolve.
Resolve Studio 20.0 build 49
Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790, 24GB RAM, 2 x Evo SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (572.16 Studio Driver), Win10 Home, Speed Editor, Faderport 1, Calibrated Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ & Samsung monitors for UI, Canon C100mk2, Zoom H2n.

Thank you for your response. I have tried multiple videos and none of them work in Resolve, most of them are screen recordings that I took using the Radeon software built into my GPU. I am using the free version however the videos in question are 8 bit and play just fine in other applications.

I forgot to mention my pc specs in the original post.

MSI MPG x570
Ryzen 5 2600x
32gb ram
Radeon rx480
Windows 10 pro 64bit

Can you post some details as per the FAQs, and a sample clip?
its likely the clip type or the GPU driver.

It's an OpenCL issue that got introduced with Resolve 17. If you wait long enough (like a minute?) it should eventually work... hopefully.

I always recommend hardware recorders for screen capture you intend to edit. They typically offer editing friendly options like DNx and ProRes, whereas software normally doesn't.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I have waited over an hour with no change.

I have tried mulitple file formats from multiple sources, including videos recorded with different cell phones (galaxy s20, galaxy s8, Iphone 5) with no change at all. Whatever the problem is it doesn't seem to be with the source of the video or the file format.
