Can't download DaVinci Resolve

PostSun Jul 11, 2021 4:28 pm

After visiting various sites to investigate the reason Davinci does not open, it was noted that this is somewhat common, and one recommendation was to uninstall then install the program. After completing the uninstall using Geekuninstaller to force removal of any traces of DaVinci, I attempted to add first 16, then 17, and both come back saying "failed to install DaVinci Control Panels. Continue with others components?" When I click yes, I get the message again, over and over, "Failed to Install Control Pane". There is a brief "flash" of a black screen as if it was trying very briefly to proceed, but then it goes back to repeating itself in the small, pop up box. I had some problems unrelated to DaVinci, that was putting things into a temporary file. So I added another user as "administrator," and tried to add DaVinci through myself as administrator, but that resulted in the current problem as stated. As a side note, I tried Openshot video editing, but that was too unfamiliar, then I tried Lightworks, and that was lagging to the point of unusability. I had that platform all of 10 minutes. Now I'm back with Davinci. At this point, I'm willing to go to the paid version if it would allow me to download the editor successfully. All I do is create videos from my cycling around West Los Angeles, but because of the frequency, I need an editing platform that would allow the titles, fades, texts, and other things I so accustomed to. Anyone, ANYONE, who had this experience and found a solution, please advise. It would be greatly appreciated.

Is your computer spec suitable for running Resolve? Are you using the installer from the Blackmagic website? Is your GPU driver up to date? And last but not least, do you have enough disk space for the install?
There is no point in purchasing the Studio version if you cannot get the Free version to install and run.

Checking my Nvidia Geforce GTX 745 against Wiki's list, which shows a 3.5 value as the minimum requirement, my GTX 745 is not included but falls into a rough numerical sequence makes it non-supported, possibly. This does not explain why Davinci used to work as recently as two weeks ago, with DaVinci 17. At this point, I would be interested in what the users of DaVinci have in terms of computer, and if a new computer might be an option. There are advertised computers that are found when I search for "Best computers for editing with DaVinci," but the selections include gaming capability and a higher end selection. Would like to hear of the computer make and model in the budget to mid-price range, if possible. Thank you.
The link that gives the list that I consulted is: https://beginnersapproach.com/davinci-r ... pu-issues/
It is also titled, "Most Common DaVinci Resolve GPU Issues (& How to Fix Them)" if anyone wants to do a Yahoo search under that.

Your GTX 745 may have worked in OpenCL mode, but it would not support CUDA 11 which Resolve has used since version 16.2.6.
These are the recommended minimum requirements for Resolve.

Mr. Bennett, I appreciate the definitive word on this, it is very helpful. Also, thankyou for including the specifics on computer requirements. I will keep these specific requirements as the basis for my computer shopping. Cheers!
