XMP metadata support

PostThu Oct 03, 2019 9:37 pm

I've built a bunch of internal tools for generating deliverables and spot indexing that depends on being able to embed and extract XMP metadata in ProRes .mov master files. In my desire to toss Adobe Premiere into the dustbin of history, I'm disappointed that Resolve doesn't appear to support any form of custom metadata embedding into render files, nor extraction of custom XMP metadata from existing files.

I would love to see XMP support in Resolve, and I would think a lot of people who are currently locked into Adobe tools because of it's excellent support of XMP metadata would also appreciate this, and would be a major checkbox ticked in favor of switching over to Resolve.

Me three.

Critical for a modern day production facility pipeline. This is mandatory for accessing your archival footage...The reason maybe Blackmagic has yet to do this...XMP cost something to license?

The XMP toolkit is free to use under the terms of the BSD license. Even Creative Commons recommends and prefers it for embedded metadata in media files.

I use an external software to edit the metadata of my mp4 files, and add a thumbnail too (so I have a nice picture in the non-list view). Using built-in "properties" way on Windows is not very practical.

I would also like to have Resolve reading it if there are embedded in the video.

+1 here too. I've tagged THOUSANDS of photos (in Darktable) and would really appreciate if DR could at least *read* the same subset of user metadata that others have mentioned here. Keywords to start. There is so, so much potential with adding this, whereas we feel a bit locked-in by using DR for adding metadata, if it can't be portable...

Knowing too that sidecar files can have a time-cost (esp over network storage, and when mofying 100s/1000s of clips), I hope BM make any new write-capability be user-initiated (button) and asynchronous -- as an option or alternative to it always being on and synchronous..

+1 especially for video camera info like lens, serial number, firmware, model, sensor, etc.

Canon C300 and C70 can both write a fair bit of data to XML sidecar files and, perhaps I'm not seeing how, but it doesn't seem like any of that data can be logged automatically in Resolve by reading the XML.

Advice welcome!

+1 tags and keywords are central to my work as I have to manage video footage recorded over years of work. I think this feature would also allow other users to easily migrate to resolve.
