Multichannel audio with Web Presenter HD/4K

PostMon Aug 16, 2021 6:57 am

How do the Web Presenter HD and 4K handle multichannel audio? From the documentation I understand that it will show the status of 32 audio channels and whether they are active or not. But will it encode and send out all these channels in the stream? How do streaming platforms like YouTube support this? Do they allow users to choose the audio channels? There does not seem to be a way to select which channels you want to use for the main left/right channels and ditch the others.

Apparently earlier this year YouTube has started testing multi-lingual audio for video. It would be nice if the viewer can decide to which commentator language to listen or no commentator at all.

Setting up multiple streams seems to be the easiest way for now. But that also means setting up separate feeds with different audio. It would be so handy to create just one PGM stream with e.g. 8 channels of audio (four stereo channels) and on the Web Presenter choose which audio channels to use for the stream. Also handy if the master recording has all languages embedded.

Oh for sure it's handy.. But you pointing out Multilanguage on YT i had not seen this.. Might be worth trying some if possible..

But with another audio embedder in front of the webpresenter as the Atems also only create stereo audio with no way of embedding multiple channels..

Yes, most likely going the embed route anyway as I plan to switch to an external audio mixer. First by using only single AES connection to embed two channels of digital audio. Maybe later extract multiple AES channels from a MADI output from the mixer. Because the mixer offers the option I started looking into multi-channel audio, hence my question ;)

And yes, the ATEM line-up definitely needs more advanced audio routing capabilities.

Is there any update for this? Twitch is capable of two audio sources (it's hacky but it works). We thought about buying another webpresenter for this but i found this topic so... any update? :)

For multiple audio channels im using OBS .. One video and multiple stereo pairs of audio to my wowza server .. And divide this to multiple destinations (FB,YT,Twitch,RTMP,...) .. Video with audio needed ..
