Marker on video and audio, but need only video?

PostSun Aug 25, 2019 7:11 pm

Hi guys, as default it seems that resolve sets a marker on the video and audio track. But I only want the video marker to reduce clutter. I know how to delete the audio marker or select only the video track. However most of the time I work with the linked selection. Is there a way to change the marker default behavior in this regard?

Thanks very kindly

I would also like to set a marker only for the video track and not for the audio track.

I agree this does seem like an odd behavior. It's even worse in my case where have synced my footage to multitrack audio files. When I add 1 marker to the video I get an additional 7 markers on days that the audio guy is recording multiple booms, Lavs and Mix-downs. It makes tracking these markers in the edit index very challenging.

From the Source Viewer, this can't be controlled.

From the timeline, select only the video portion of a clip when setting the Marker.

Thanks. This is a workaround I agree. Here's where it won't work in my case. I create quite a few markers in the viewer which doesn't allow you to prioritise video over audio as far as I know. Then when I insert these clips into the timeline it comes in with the additional markers which I then have to remove manually. I am actually curious to know what the benefit of having additional markers on audio is. I'm sure there's a logic behind it. It's just functionally very different from how other NLE's handle markers.

What frustrates the hell out of me is that Resolve treats the Video Marker and the Audio Marker at the exact same timecode as two different Markers for navigation purposes, forcing us to hit Next Marker several times to actually move the damn playhead.

Very frustrating. :x

It’s worth putting in a feature request for the functionality you’re looking for. I’d imagine there’d be quite a few upvotes. They seem to be really good at getting these updates in quickly if there’s enough interest.

I think I did once, but I couldn't find it easily.

The workaround that I found Is mapping a shortcut key to link and unlink ("L" for me) and setting "selection follows playhead" under timeline menu. It will select only the video and writing a marker will place on video only.

I also agree that its maddening the way resolve marks all linked clips resulting in a mess of markers, especially for synced sources that can have so many audio tracks.

A simple toggle of video only or even better - a target marker track would be great.

NEW WORKAROUND

This one is so simple it's almost annoying I didn't try it first. Just use the TRACK LOCKS on the audio track and Resolve will only write a marker on the Video track even if linked clips are enabled.

This is one that's bugged me from day 1 of using Resolve.
I like Jim's simple fix of making Next and Prev ignore markers on other tracks when they're at the same timecode.

I hope he makes an actual request for it in the Features forum! :)

I think I made that argument in the Shortcuts thread, suggesting that Marker Navigation and Marker Selection be separate shortcuts.

I'm running into this exact same problem... I imagine for every 1 person willing to post on the forum here, there are 99 other people frustrated by the same problem who just don't bother to say anything.

It's really kinda demotivating when there is something clearly wrong / unintuitive / whatever.... people take the time to point out how it could be improved..... and then NOTHING HAPPENS.

I imagine a lot of people don't even bother making feature suggestions anymore, after you learn that your effort will simply be ignored.

So far I've been getting used to pressing "right" -> "shift+down" for navigation, so that you go to next frame and then next marker. But this is not even a workaround, it's learning a very bad habit. This behaviour is absolutely an annoyance especially for marker users (I use them a lot since final cut 7).

Hopefully this gets fixed / changed.

I've written up a Feature Request if folks would like to add their votes.
