Pocket Camera back to Adorama, now what?

PostTue Sep 10, 2013 4:33 am

I had to make a decision today that I did not expect to make one day before finally getting my BMPCC (ordered in April) on the mail.
Last Thursday when I read about the "blooming" issue and that BMD is offering a recalibration to fix it, my BMPCC was already on its way from Adorama, scheduled to be delivered tomorrow (Tuesday) in McAllen TX.
I am not sure of the exact procedure to recalibrate the camera, but I decided that it would be better if that responsibility falls in Adorama's hands and not mine (call me pessimist, but I think all Pocket cameras should be re-checked and calibrated regardless of any test performed by the final consumer).
So I called Adorama and asked them to re-route the package back to them. They did not quite understood my reasons or the blooming tale (I'm sure none of the customer service personnel reads this forum regularly) but agreed that they will hold the camera once they get it back and wait for some sort of service order from BMD.
I told them that they will surely and shortly get a "memo" from BMD explaining what to do with the Pocket cameras returned by costumers. Am I right?
Please shed some light about this, as my camera is on its way back to Adorama's customer service "limbo".

Thanks in advance!

Its a new camera in an unopened box. Adorama will just send it to whoever is next in line. Not all of the cameras suffer from blooming issues, so that is exactly what BMD will tell them. Anyone who gets one with blooming has to send it to the California support office from what I understand.

As I explained on my first post, Adorama agreed on waiting for some sort of notice from BMD. The status of my order is not as "returned for refund" but rather "waiting to be tested in store/recalibrated".

I believe it should remain within the retailer/manufacturer responsibility to deliver a "non-defective" camera, and not to depend on us consumers to test, return and then wait for the camera to be shipped back home.

Blackmagic assured us that every camera was tested before shipping, so any cameras we got are 100% fine!

Though if any other customer still feels a little uncomfortable, they can send it in to Blackmagic and they will recalibrate it again within 48 hours and send it back - we can't do this at Adorama

Sorry to get a little off topic... anybody knows if Adorama is still shipping BMPCC that were backordered? On the B&H site it says 7-10 days until delivery... but I don't know if that's a little too optimistic ;)

Can BMD guarantee that EVERY BMPCC will be checked from this moment on and that NONE with the orb issue will slip through the net to customers?

It's great to see an online retailer here on the boards. I've always had good experiences with Adorama and this reinforces that.

Blackmagic assured us that every camera was tested before shipping, so any cameras we got are 100% fine!

Isn't this what they originally said too?

Sorry but not convinced.

I got mine from Adorama a few weeks back and it definitely has the orb issue. So, that particular assurance from BMD is not exactly correct, unless they meant "from this point on."

(and since tone is often difficult to decipher with typed messages, I say this without snark and simply as statement of my situation. I'm not the type to get involved with the wars over issues like this. I'll likely send my camera to BMD when they're ready and have the calibration process streamlined.)

Of course they meant "from this time on". They didn't even know about the issue when your camera was shipped.

Correct!

I've been in correspondence with one BMF member, and he felt that my responses to him could be usefully shared with everybody, so here goes:

If you find that, in spite of BM's assurances to us that all the units they have sent out to us have been thoroughly tested there is a problem, you wouldn't return it to us. You would return it directly to BM under warranty.

Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to open up a camera and test it before shipping as that would violate the terms of supply between us and BMC, I'm really sorry.

I suggest that if you need sales advice eg relating to products in the future, rather than advice about our services, you would be advised to go directly to our sales department:
