Change Timecode for multiple clips at the same time

Right now the ability to change starting timecode to a clip is possible only if applied on a single clip.

But when I try to modify multiple clips the option is grayed out.

I get logging notes from directors and producers and they watch the footage on non-professional video players like VLC where the timecodes of each clip start from ZERO.

They send me editing instructions with the clip's name and the timecodes so when I start the project I go over the footage and change the clips to start at zero so the instruction's TC and footage TC will match.

It's impossible to change dozens or hundreds of clip settings one by one.

I saw this thread that suggests a way to use Console scripts.. but it's very complicated and tedious + sometimes it doesn't work.

So please add this basic feature that other NLE's already have for many years.

I consider changing timecode value start times to 0 a bad workflow and can cause other conform problems.
Especially on a large project.
Compensating for a poor logging practice/workflow makes you take on more work and opens you up to errors that you can be blamed for.
Be warned.

Window Dubs is the industry standard practice here.

I think that's your best solution.

Thanks for the advice but I have been working like that for years- on Adobe Premiere, and had no trouble.
it's very comfortable especially when all of my clients send me the logging with "clip from zero TC".

As I said the option of changing TC is already possible in Resolve, and it's possible with scripts so all I ask is to make it possible for multi clips inside the app itself.

And apparently, there are more people that need this feature - they started using console scripts to workaround the lack of this basic feature...

Well its not a solution for me as my clients usually shoot the footage, go over it and then hand me the footage + TC logging

They work with regular video players and I have no say about how they go over the footage...

While i agree on principle, there is another case: VFX from a vendor where the timecode is all over the place and in editorial offline is pinned at 01:00:00:00. In order to make an EDL/AAF/XML works, we have to match what editorial has and modify the starting timecode of a VFX by hand one by one.

The last movie I worked on had 1300 VFX, some with multiple deliveries/versions...... you can see that it can become quite a chore.

Well, it doesn't work with my clients and the production timeframe...
I also wanted to make them use reviewing platforms like Frame.io - but they don't like it.

Bottom line is that I need to adjust myself to the client's needs - and as mentioned before this feature is also required for other scenarios as well.

BTW Adobe Premiere Pro Saves the original TC of the clip. So it's non destructive - you can even change the TC after the clip was edited.

I would prefer an alternate solution for this particular workflow problem: An additional Timecode "display mode" in the source & timeline viewers that displays playhead postion in mm:ss referenced from the beginning of the file. This should be dead simple to implement; "Source frame" is already an option, it just needs to be converted into minutes and seconds. That would cover the (not uncommon) issue of edits being specified from a zero reference, and it wouldn't introduce potentially error-prone ways to modify timecode. I would prefer the display to specifically use mm:ss vs. a timecode format so it's easy to tell at a glance which mode you are looking at.

Just as a note/digression, PPro, if you have “Clip 001”, 002… from the same source, all with original TC starting at 00:00:00:00 – PPro will CREATE a new starting TC for clip 002 and so on based on the End TC/duration of clip 001. This is fine inside of PPro to eliminate multiple 001, 002… clips having competing extents but they are false for XMLs exports and don’t truly relate to a clips true TC. Another example of Adobe not playing well with others. Be warned on conforms with those low end camera files.

Premier works well for this - simply click on the source viewer timecode display and select different modes.

I have the same as above, sometimes will share files with colleagues who will use the absolute timecode.

I'm glad that Premiere can do it...

I just found this and you saved my a** so much, thank you, really.

I took over an edit from a colleague who had proxies created in premiere, that for some creepy reason do not have the original clips' timecode embedded and all start at TC 00:00:00:00, which made reconforming to the original footage literally impossible.
Since I noticed this only after beginning to edit, i was confronted with manually realigning every single edit I've made.

Using your plugin on (a duplicated bin of) the original footage, I made all Clips start at the same 00:00… mark as the proxies and now I can reconfirm like a charm.
