How to open corrupt video file

I have an Insta360 One R 1-inch camera, and when the battery dies during recording, the file isn't terminated correctly (the file is massive, though, so I know most of the data is there). I understand some software can read video file segments. Is this possible to do with Resolve? I've also seen some techniques to read & save corrupt files but haven't had any success doing it myself (using VLC or handbrake). Seems like it shouldn't be too hard to read up to a certain point in a file that wasn't terminated correctly, but I can't get it done. Any ideas or suggestions?

The easy answer: Try it.
If resolve wants to read the trailer (last part of the file where important stuff is) and it's not there, then nothing is going to happen.
In that case you need to remux (not recode) the file. Your favorite ffmpeg frontend can do that

If Resolve won’t play it, try some video repair software. Whether an incomplete file plays or not depends how its data is laid out. Some files store the data layout at the end when file is finalized and in this case it must be recreated because it doesn’t exist. This is what these repair tools do essentially.

Yeah, I'd already tried to open it in Resolve, but that didn't work.

I hadn't heard the term "remux" before but downloaded ffmpeg and tried it. That didn't work, either. It just outputs the message "No such file or directory" which, of course, isn't true. The file I tried it on is 5.8GB. Insta360 says I can send the file to them and they'll try to fix it, so I may do that at some point, but it would sure be easier to do it myself than to try and get several big files to someone else and back. I have a few files on which the battery died that are closer to 40GB or 50GB.

Please be wary of the downloads, I use a separate computer for this kind of thing to isolate viruses.

Then you're pointing it at the wrong place.

Can you paste exactly the command you're using and the error you get, verbatim?

Maybe spaces in the paths confused it. I copied the file to the ffmpeg bin folder and ran it again and got a different error. I used the -i param and just got the message:

moov atom not found
corrupt.mp4: Invalid data found when processing input

Same here. While reviewing footage, I accidentally shift-deleted an afternoon's work instead of 1 file. 2/3 came back w/Recuva but VRP recovered everything. It was the 4th recovery app I tried.

Shift-delete is dangerous. Now I drag to a "Delete" folder, then delete those.

VRP works really well with .mov files. The download is not encrypted so you'll have to mess with your browser (and hope the download is clean).
