hide all the audio tracks

this is connected with another idea I saw where you can collapse tracks for simplicity.

I'm doing TV at the moment and I have 16 audio tracks that are the final ones, locked and forget about them. I'm just dealing with VFX/color.

The Idea is to be able to "LOCK and forget" the tracks, as in, make them disappear, either by making them really tiny or altogether hide the audio editing track altogether. similar to the fairlight page hwere yo dont see the audio tracks.....

Folder Tracks would work extremely well for this. When you collapse the parent folder then all of the child audio (or video) tracks are hidden from the project. I would love to see Resolve implement Folder Tracks, not only for organizing but for routing audio (and video) through the parent folder track as well. This would open up so many possibilities for Resolve.

Would much prefer putting them all in a folder than hiding them.

I'm not married to any specific way to do it, just a clever way to "hide, release real estate, and dont touch it" will do for me.

I vote no for a single "hide all audio tracks" option as well. However, Folder Tracks are commonly used in other DAWs/NLEs to accomplish this same task (showing/hiding tracks) and provides a lot of additional flexibility for organizing and routing. This would be extremely useful in the Edit and Fairlight pages for audio and video tracks.

I think that's a good idea: a SHOW / HIDE TRACK button where you could highlight all the Audio tracks, hit the HIDE button, and they disappear except for maybe a big red button on the (empty) Audio track selector panel. I'm also annoyed at times when the client brings in a Resolve session with 10-12-16 audio tracks and I'm only dealing with color.

If BMD decide to do the show/hide track thing in the Edit Page, there's really no need for them to reinvent the wheel. They already allow for effective showing and hiding of audio & video tracks, in Fairlight, using the Track Index panel... we have the same panel in the Edit Page now. For consistency alone, that would be the place to do it.

That said, purely as an editor, fully hiding tracks is not a feature I'd personally need or want in the Edit Page. For other tasks I can see why it might seem appealing... but the chaotic mess that unwary editors would get themselves into, moving things around in non-locked cuts (as you do), unaware of hidden tracks (intentional or otherwise) would be a sight to behold.

Moving forward though, given innovations in the Edit Page itself seem few and far between these days, it would be nice if the Edit Page could inherit a bit more hand-me-down functionality from other pages a bit more frequently... for example, the far greater flexibility with handling things like track height in the Fairlight Page would certainly be nice for Edit Page users.

A late (but enthusiastic) +1 here for collapsible folder tracks, which as of 18.5.1 are not a feature. It would be life-changing to be able to organize/consolidate complex audio timelines in this way, without bouncing busses or creating compound clips. Especially if you can apply edits / effects en masse on the folder track, and still be able to expand the folder and edit on the track level within the same timeline (which is how it works in DAWs like Pro Tools and Studio One).

I moved to Resolve from Vegas Pro which also has Folder Tracks where you can apply video effects to folder tracks. In Resolve, it could also be used to limit the application of Adjustment Clips. The Adjustment Clip could have a setting in the Inspector to only affect tracks inside a Folder Track instead of the entire project, which would make Adjustment Clips so much more flexible.

Maybe a locked minimized view for selected tracks also would be nice next to groups.

I think a Vegas Pro like grouping and minimizing solution would help a lot at organizing big projects. Once I edited a feature where I had like 850 tracks in Vegas and it was very helpful.

On the edit page timelines can get SUPER complicated. In Fairlight one can make tracks invisible.

Being able to minimize tracks and or CLIPS, without compounding them would be very handy in order to have cleaner views of timeline when you don't want to insert certain tracks on any old channel and have to scroll down to hit said channels.

A feature like this would be awesome and could look like this-- -- obviously. imagine January, February, march etc were Video track 1, Audio track 1, Audio track 2, Audio track 3, etc.... and all the columns were one column made up of the different clips-- see below for picture and scroll through it for a full understanding.

Just adding to the growing clamor for an option to make audio tracks invisible so more precious UI real estate is available to see all the video tracks one is editing. Would be great if such a feature was available for Cut & Edit (especially Edit), & not just Fairlight.

I'm editing 7 exr file sequences that had different passes. I stacked them up one upon the other.

Hiding the audio track would free up space in the editing timeline. How to do it?

Karl I think that's the point of the discussion - it isn't possible at the moment

Lot of people seem to be against it because of the mess/confusion if may cause.

For those who said "no" - If it's not a feature you'd use then it shouldn't be a problem, there could be tick boxes for each track with, untick what you don't want to see, with a master tick box on the top for "show hidden tracks". If you didn't want to use it/get confused you could just make sure this was "show hidden tracks" before you start working.

Maybe even something in the preferences to "allow hiding of tracks" which you could turn permanently off if you thought it would cause an issue.

I understand the folder structure suggestions, Walters 16 tracks into just 1 folder would be a game changer for him. But I'm currently editing on a vertical project, on a laptop, with a locked audio music tracks and a couple of video tracks. Screen real estate is already a problem. Hiding the audio track would be great.

Would love to hide audio track and also kind of force GUI to keep first track as much on the bottom as possible - so many times I have quite a bit of video tracks and only so much vertical space on monitor...
