How to change default project save folder

PostFri Jun 23, 2023 12:16 am

Projects are saved in this folder

C:\Users\King\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database\Resolve Projects\Users\guest\Projects

I want to save them in another disk and I want to make it default

So all my future projects will be saved there

How can I do that? I will also move all folders located here

How to do it?

You make project libraries, and therefore their path, in the project manager.
We recommend the project library be on a permanently connected internal SSD and should not be ExFat formatted.

Don't do that. Change your strategy and accept that the Resolve database works the way it does for a reason. resolve is not Premiere and it's not like other programs that routinely save the session file as a separate thing in a specific place.

What you can do is to export a daily backup of the project (a DRP file) to a folder on your source drive, and that's what we do every day. We don't have to use them often, but one in a blue moon, it happens.

Read Chapter 3, "Managing Projects and Project Libraries," starting on p. 65 of the 18.1 user manual. It goes into the Resolve database in great detail. And if you haven't already, consider going through the free Editing Tutorials on Blackmagic's training website:

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... e/training

Even if you have many years of experience editing on other platforms, you need to go through this so you don't get lost or run into some catastrophic problem.

When you create a new Library, Resolve will ask you where to store it.

I advocate for a dedicated internal drive for this purpose.

System
Libraries
Exports
Media
Gallery/Cache/Proxies
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
