How do I enter accented characters?

PostSun Sep 18, 2022 1:42 pm

In Text+ nodes and the subtitle text entry it doesn't seem to be possible to type accented characters.

ALTGR+accent followed by the letter doesn't work, entering as unicode with CTRL-SHIFT-U then the hex code doesn't work.

Switching keyboard layouts doesn't appear to work either.

It's getting really tedious having to copy and paste half the vowels in when I'm subtitling. Is there something obvious I'm missing?

Edit: Even when I copy and paste in the symbol it doesn't show up in the subtitle.

Typing with accents in Text+ nodes (and Subtitle text entry) seems to be working just fine in a quick test on my Mac. ([Opt]+[`], [Opt]+[e], [Opt]+[i], [Opt]+[u], [Opt]+[n])

Even assuming that ALT is the same as Option, it doesn't work in Linux at all, and I can't even paste accented text in.

I have discovered though that you can use CTRL-V to paste into the text box and it often works and roughly half the time doesn't even crash Resolve. Using normal middle-click paste does not work, even using normal ASCII symbols because the text box doesn't see anything pasted in it.

It's all a bit of a buggy mess, really.

Option on Mac is equivalent to Alt on Windows...

Good to know. It's always a good idea to clarify your system / setup when troubleshooting.

Hm, that's weird, it was in my sig block which is now blank.

I don't know if it's possible to type these characters in Windows. I expect it must be, but I've never used it for anything serious.

I've been able to enter extended ASCII character codes into Resolve under Windows by holding down the Alt key and typing the ASCII character code number (for example, Alt + 0233 gives "é"). But you have to type the numbers using the numeric keypad.

I'm having the same issue with Text+ and text node. I have Resolve running on Linux.

Currently I'm writing the text first in a note editor in Linux, and then copy and paste.
But for some reason I also cant write accented characters directly in resolve. I have the 18.5.1 Release.

Any suggestions that you can give me for a try would be great!!.

Thanks.

I've never had that issue in Windows, but I've tested 3 versions so far in Linux and all had that issue. Not only typing inside DVR but also while exporting srt files...

It's half 2025.... And BlackMagic still did anything about it? The most simple text editor on Linux can accept accented characters.
Seens to be such a simple thing to solve.
