Announced also on their website.

Can we for a moment appreciate that Grant and his team does this at 3am in the morning so that viewers in the US can watch the presentation at 10am/1pm?
(In my EU time zone it will be 7pm)

Then they would have cut out all the little accidents Grant does. In the years before we also had live streams in LOG, with audio errors and more. So I think it is pretty safe to say it is a live stream.
I really appreciate that Grant does it that way and it feels very down to earth.

I remember that one, that was for the BMD Web Presenter I think and I agree it looked like it was live. But I wonder if they are always live. Either way, it's always a joy watching Grant be exited for the new products and using them upside down for the presentation. :)

Every year they do two videos. One updates broadcast stuff, the other updates cinema stuff. They are listing broadcast in this description and the teaser is of a concert, so I’m lowering my expectations.

Thursday I have to pick up rentals and do gear prep and drive to a hotel 3 hours away for a shoot on Friday. I wonder how I'll find the time to watch the Live Stream... Guess I'm going to have to give 1pm to 3pm blocked off for the stream, then jump in the car and leave.

Or perhaps look at the actual livestream later, even on the weekend, as a few minutes reviewing this thread while having dinner and again, if and when the webpages are updated, you can learn everything you need to know. Don’t let it put too much time pressure on you and risk your health and your shoot.

Agreed. I can always listen to the Live Stream through the car speakers as I'm driving around. No need to watch. Then I could watch later in the hotel. Not like I'm able to pre-order anything at the moment anyways.

But maybe I could convince the studio I've been working with to purchase one of the new cameras.

In related news, a Z CAM engineer let slip that they will be announcing a new 5K MFT camera with global shutter on friday. The Z CAM E2-M5G. With more and more global shutter sensors being available perhaps that might be a sign of things to come? Global shutter doesn't make or break a camera of course, I just thought it was interesting.

Hopefully a pocket that moves away from the DSLR form factor.

I’m personally hoping for something similar to an FX6. Such a perfect compact size, and very easy & quick to use. Tossing BM’s superior IQ & BRAW into that thing would be the camera for me.

My wish list:

A Resolve update that squashes all bugs.

A 4k version of the UltraStudio 3G (a box, not the US 4k mini.)

A Komodo competitor would be cool but I've given up hope there. Judging by the 12k price drop, it's probably an even more ridiculous Ursa.

As noted above, will probably just be broadcast stuff (great for those who do that!)

Awesome! I can't wait to see what's new!
I sure hope they didn't just put the 12K sensor in a new body. I know a lot of people love it, and I think the Ursa 12k has great colors, but when I see footage from it, there a strange look to the motion that is not pleasant to my eyes.
And please, BMD needs to release every new camera from now on with OLPF. Alexa Mini, Alexa LF, Alexa35, RED Komodo/Raptor, and Sony Venice all have OLPF. I'm sick and tired of getting Moire in footage.

Sorry to say it and I'm sure I might get mobbed for this. But I really hope they have nailed a continuous auto focus system, I have been using Sony a lot lately and its so good to have, I really miss it when solo shooting with my Blackmagic stuff.

I don't blame you. I've heard a lot of people who love it. I've used it on my Sony A7IV and it is a nice thing to have.

The new Sony Burano seems like a perfect mix now. It's got the best of both worlds with the PL Mount and the E-Mount.

I'm slowly embracing autofocus. It's nice for teleprompter shoots with the subject talking directly to the camera. So then you don't have to worry about reaching in the teleprompter to get to the lens.

So many times it comes in handy sad to say I use it for everything when I’m on the FX6 and FX3 and only override it when it’s not working for the shot.

It’s wicked for long lens talent walking towards camera, doing push ins on a dolly track, doing arks at super shallow depth of field on a gimbal etc.

For solo operating stuff it’s a must really, the autofocus is really tempting me in investing in one to be honest, I do a lot of narrative stuff but for the documentary style stuff sad to say Sony have nailed it with their lightweight body’s with wicked compact and long lasting batteries.

I think they really need decent auto focus or they risk losing that part of the market.

Certainly the new Sony Burano looks like it would be a treat to operate presumably as a rental camera. The price of $25,000 USD plus CFExpress media and additional attachments seems expensive for a sole operator, but reasonable as a B-camera to a Sony Venice as has been suggested.

Oodles of features some of which BMD may be announcing in a sub-$10,000 camera tomorrow that sole operators may purchase outright. So Thursday’s announcement may have a slightly different target audience.

I think you’re right Rick, the new Sony sits in a funny middle ground for me, too expensive for an owner operator and for bigger budget stuff just get the Venice 2.

Blackmagic has taken a bit of the indie cinema market and with the Pocket has also taken some of the solo independent production company market, but with the new Sony stuff I really think they need an autofocus solution.

It will be interesting to see if and how it plays out considering Sony/Canon etc create their own lenses which presumably talk to their own autofocus systems perfectly in order to perform such eye tracking wizardry.

I wonder if we will see the new L- mount be adopted, hopefully it will be interchangeable too, whatever happens it’s exciting times.

Maybe it will be an AI auto-focus system. The new sony 6700 has a great AI Ive been told and some other features like reframing for video... Mayl not please the cinema crowd. Im sure there will also be something for them. Independent cinemas a place for both.

The companies with competitive auto focus always have their own line of AF lenses, something Blackmagic is not likely to offer.

Even Sigma, which has been reverse engineering EF mount auto focusing for over a decade has not mastered it until recent years.

This end of the rumor mill is more conservative, with some long waited for improvements:

"Blackmagic Design is teasing a new product announcement on September 14 – could this be for the rumored L-mount cinema camera?

Here is what to expect:

Large OLED touchscreen
Super35 6K sensor
No IBIS
Improved gyro stabilization
6K at 75fps and 4K at 140fps video
OLED screen and
CFExpress Type B memory card"

While I do see that it's probably wishful thinking, I think Ricardo does have a good point about AI autofocus. With how good machine learning is getting and a little be of emphasis I could see a company like Blackmagic take advantage of the AI chip to quickly gain ground on recognition systems and then perhaps create an external unit that communicates with the camera to drive the lenses autofocus?

I'm sort of hoping for a return of the BMCC but in G2 form. Rugged magnesium body, smaller than an ursa, built in ND and with the way the market is going, probably full frame.

Well, now that I don't have a shoot on this announcement day as it was pushed to Sunday... guess I can stay up all night in anticipation. Haha.

Seriously, I'm excited no matter what. The main thing I do want is on the Resolve side if they don't do many of the improvements I need camera wise. Wonder whether what they announce will make an impact,. We'll see. But they have me with Resolve so I'm in the BMD ecosystem either way. So I'd like a camera that best integrates with Resolve for post.

I don't know why, but I REALLY want BMD to prove all of these pretentious YouTubers wrong with something that doesn't match the rumors they are so sure of. "It look like we're gonna get ____. It will have _____." Gah!
SO many say that BMD is 'fighting back from the loss of sales the FX3 has taken from them', and I just don't think that's true.

People are always gonna cry for unrealistic specs and never be satisfied, but man does the AF+IBIS+FF demand get old.

/end Rant

I'm just really hoping for something NEW. Something that gets me excited about the future of the brand itself. I'm super happy with my Pocket 6k Pro and the Ursa 12k I've been using. It will be interesting what is announced and where it falls in the line of BMD bodies!

I hope they have a OLED SDI/HDMI universal EVF that can be use with any BMD camera for less than $300.

What other camera product space remains for BM to move into? A robust action cam with a 6K sensor for the mainstream production industry? Ursa Mini Pros painted white? We shall duly know in the fullness of time.

While a small market, they could dominate the consumer 360 market just by using a better codec than the competitors. The Insta360 ONE RS 1-Inch 360 Edition does a lot of things right but the codec and bit rate really let it down. BMD already has the post processing pipeline for post-reframing of 360 material.

AI colour grading software, Virtual production LED walls, Optimised cameras for VP with good eco systems which BMD does well, low budget cameras under US1000.

Cinema camera RAW recording market at the low end sub $5k was dead when BMD took off.
This market is now, 10 years later well saturated with so much great gear at low price point, but it was BMD the one to turn tables around.

They may just do the similar thing with new fast coming technology.

My guess would be:

# new 4k true cinema pocket sub $1000
# led volume VP kit / new integrated camera kit
# AI colour grading / editing software around Resolve

And some other updates around broadcast gear.

Not long now...
