Performance Problem with Essential Video Editing Templets!

PostSat Oct 07, 2023 8:53 pm

Did anyone try the free templates from Essential Video Editing? They are availble here:
https://www.buymeacoffee.com/essentialvideo/extras

I tried some and they are very nice however I noticed they are very heavy on the system and rarely plays back in real time!

For example, I installed her Essential Video Collage Effect template shown in this video:

Then I created 3 x 3 Video Collage as you can see here:

Screenshot 2023-10-07 234420.png (775.28 KiB) Viewed 1450 times

Then I created the same effect using the built-in OpenFX Video Collage effect in Resolve:
Screenshot 2023-10-07 234504.png
Screenshot 2023-10-07 234504.png (832.7 KiB) Viewed 1450 times

As you can see from the screenshots, the one created with the built-in effect in Resolve runs smoothly in real time at 25 fps, however the one created with her template is very slow and is playing back at around 4.5 fps! Any idea why this is happening?

One is an optimised image processing plugin written by BMD (ResolveFX) the other is a third party Fusion template thats hammering your resources less efficiently.

Interesting to know!

So I should expect any template that relies on Fusion to be slow? Is there a way to speed up Fusion effects?

Yes. And no. You already have a pretty capable CPU.
Do a Render in Place instead.

The Essential Video Editing templates are great but can be heavy on system performance, causing lag during playback. The users of alight motion [https://motionalightapk.com/]premium[/https://motionalightapk.com/] may face similar issues with complex templates. To improve performance, try lowering preview quality or pre-rendering clips. Both tools offer powerful effects but require managing system resources for smoother editing.

Based on my experience, insufficient processing power - particularly in terms of the CPU—is a primary cause of slow performance, lag, and crashes during video editing. High-resolution footage, complex effects, and video encoding are all highly CPU-intensive tasks. For instance, rendering a 4K project with multiple layers can take several hours on an underpowered system.
