Just to add what Rick said already, I would do it his way, and likely be something like this.
As a shooter, I would use a frame guide (be it one that is in camera or masks the monitor) to compose the shot I want it for that frame ratio. The camera will record it as 16:9 but that’s fine.
In post, I can size or frame the shots by setting the size I want the clip to be or through overlays (or output blanking) to the frame size I want that shot to be delivered. It’s pretty easy to do.
Just as a postscript, I don’t like to use overlays or what Resolve has call output blanking unless I am in a rush and the project is not very particular. What I prefer doing is for those clips that needs to be reframed with a different frame size, I would do them individually and separately, and then assemble them with the other clips in a master timeline. This way I maintain everything in the correct aspect ratio. Wes Anderson movies are known to do this a lot.
