Videohub CleanSwitch Blanking Issues with BiDi-Converter

PostMon Jul 01, 2024 6:15 pm

Hi everybody,

I have a Smart Videohub CleanSwitch 12X12 with software version 9.0.1. All Inputs are set to 1080/60p.

I've noticed that all 12 inputs blank for a short time (about half a second) if the device connected to Port 1 is turned on/off, or if I connect/disconnect a running device to Port 1. This only occurs if a BiDirectional Converter 3G/12G is connected to Port 1. It doesn't matter whether a PC or a HyperDeck 4K (used for testing) is connected to the BiDirectional Converter.

Furthermore, I discovered that only the outputs are blanked if a BiDirectional Converter is also connected. The other inputs, to which two other HyperDeck 4Ks are connected, remain stable (no blanking). When I try to connect/disconnect the HyperDeck 4K directly to input Port 1, there is no blanking.

This behavior does not occur on the other 11 ports, whether a BiDirectional Converter 3G/12G is enabled, disabled, connected, or disconnected; it only happens if a BiDirectional Converter is connected to Port 1.

I'm wondering if Input 1 is also used as a reference input (Ref In) for syncing all ports, which could be causing the blanking? I haven't found any information on this yet.

Does anyone have an idea? Should I purchase a Mini Converter Sync Generator and connect it to the Ref-In-Port to resolve this issue, even though syncing the BiDirectional Converter is not possible?

Best regards,

Yes, I believe this is a known issue with the CleanSwitches: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=174107&p=915864&hilit=input+1+ref#p915864

P15 in the user manual, hiding under "Smart Videohub CleanSwitch 12x12"

Good Luck

Hi,

thank you for your replies. And this is the information I wanted to know.

I connected Ref-Out of HyperDeck 4K to Ref-In of VideoHub, but it seems it doesn‘t help and blanking still happens. I‘m not sure if HyperDeck 4K is generating Sync if the Ref-In of HyperDeck 4K is unused (nothing connected there).

Hi,

I bought a BMD MiniConverter Sync Generator and connected to Ref-In of the three HyperDecks and Smart Videohub CleanSwith. The blanking still happens. :( Do you have further Idea how to fix it?

The Ref-In does nothing. The only way to use this product save is a stable and non switching/glitching source on In 1. Its sad that BM never clears this. If something unusual happens on In1 the whole switch goes mad.

So the Manual, howard sent here, is wrong then? There it says it will lock to the reference Input.

By the way, is there a way to find out what setting a sync Generator is currently running without buying an expensive (several thousand EUR) oscilloscope?
(Do you know suitable oscilloscope for few hundred EUR?)

Are the hyperdecks in recording/EE or playback mode?

Hi Howard, when I was testing the hyperdecks were in pause mode.

Hi Howard, when I was testing the hyperdecks were in pause mode, I mean after they were turned on, I didn't press anything, so not recording or playing.

Yes sadly it is wrong. It locks to the first input.

If you have a computer with a decklink or so with a sync input it will usually say what the sync input standard is.

A more obscure alternative is if you have an old analog HD broadcast monitor with component inputs. That will also tell you what format you are outputting. I've used an Astro Design WM3004 monitor from the mid 2000's for this.

Great, I have Decklink 8K Pro, will test with that after holiday.

If a deck is in playback pause it will pass the reference of the deck, if a deck is in record pause/EE it will pass the reference of the input. Genlock the deck, and the router and see if you get clean switching from playback sources or genlocked inputs.

Hi Howard,

Ah I see. I connected the Sync Generator directly to all ref ins (except only the first hyper deck and loop through to the third one).

Floh79, any resolution for this issue? I might be facing something similar.
