Bug with Decklink cards and Desktop Video version 14

PostTue Jun 18, 2024 11:57 pm

Hello,

I would like to let you all know that there is currently a bug in the Desktop Video software, version 14.0 and the latest 14.0.1.
I'm using Windows 10 and multiple 'Decklink Duo 2' cards. (It could be also with the other variants, but I've not tested that).
After I boot the pc, the ports are all linked/mapped together: (As if you would use, for key/fill output for example).
In the desktop video setup, I can see:
- Port 1 to SDI1 & SDI2
- Port 3 to SDI3 & SDI4
- Port 2 to None
- Port 4 to None
So ports 2 and 4 are not usable as normal.
It's not what I have set, and it's not possible to edit: If I select another mapping option, and click Save, and re open that port config. It's still the same mapping as before editting.

After a reboot, it's working again. All mapping settings, are back at what I have set, and editable. Very strange!
When I do a shutdown. And then after a few seconds boot the desktop again, It's the problem again. (Until I choose again to reboot in Windows, than it's normal again after the reboot).

I have tested this problem on 3 different Desktops, with all different Decklink Duo 2 cards. And all have the same issue, and all work (temporary) normal after the extra reboot after boot.

Problem is with Desktop Video version 14.0 and the latest 14.0.1.
With the latest version before that: 12.9, it's working normal.

I've send a message to BM also. But I think it's possible that more people encouter problems currently with not usable input/output ports on there Decklink cards. Tempory fix: Downgrade to 12.9 ;)

Hi Daniel,

Thank you so much for sharing this info!
I have the same problem with a new Decklink Duo 2 card, using Desktop Video 14.0.1

I want to set the card to 4x inputs, but every time I change the connector mappings (to 4x single channels) and press save, it simply ignores the changes and reverts to 2x paired channels (and therefore only 2x inputs). Clunky software!

I shall try installing 12.9 as you suggest.

all the best,

Philip

Hi Daniel,

Just an update to say I have uninstalled Desktop Video 14.0.1 and installed 12.9
I am now able to treat the 4x SDI conectors on the Decklink Duo 2 as individaul channels and set them to be 4x inputs.

thanks again for the tip!

Guys, do you have a, input flicker problem in your Decklink duo 2 cards?

I have a Mac Studio with a Sonnet enclosure, and for some time now, I got flicker which happens randomly.

I did a lot of test, long cables, short cables, every possible video formats, cameras, computers with Ultrastudio mini monitor, other with Monitor 3G, etc, and I failed to identify the cause.

The problem not happens in the output, only input, with every software, even BM media express.

I have to say the issue also is present in TB3 Recorder 3G, in this Mac studio and my Laptop Macbook pro 16" M1. Both running monterey and desktop video 12.8.1

Finally, I quit to decklink and move to magewell... couldn't be more happy

Desktop Video version 14 has an issue with Quad2 too; it changes the random connector mapping.

I think it's possessed by the evil version 13 :)

@Joseph, I have at least worked with 30 Decklink Duo 2 cards before, and I haven't had any problems with them, of course. However, I don't have experience with Mac Studio and I've used them on Windows, but in my opinion, Duo 2 is really an excellent card.

Chiming in and can say that my Decklink Pro 8K cards are also refusing to save connections on PC systems. I'll revert back a version and see if that works.

I've tried 14.1 and still the same issue. I'm using Decklink 8k Gen 2 on 3 machines with exactly the same problem. My workaround is Repair the driver from the original installation file everyday. Only last until the next reboot. Very very annoying

delete version 14 and install version 12.9
that way you won't have problems.
The same thing happened to me

elimina la version 14 y instala la version 12.9
de esa forma no tendrás problemas.

I did that when 14.0 came out. I was asking if the most recent version, 14.2, released yesterday fixed the issue.

I have both versions of the 8K pro and the latest version adds some functionality.

Hello!

14.2 has same issue.

There are two workarounds:
* downgrade to 12.9
* if you want stay on ver 14, restart computer after power up.

Why can't Blackmagic fix this?

Just in case no one has seen this I sent in a support ticket. If others could do this as well that would be great.

FYI there is no need to restart your computer. Go to blackmagic desktop app, go to input 1 on connectors, change it to "SDI 1 to, in orout". Then change each connector to "SDI X in or out".
This needs to be done on each card if you have more than 1

Still nothing form Blackmagic Support however I did install the new version of the Decklink 8K Pro on a second computer today and that install had zero issues. From that I can confirm that the change Blackmagic made for the new card rendered the older cards unable to be upgraded and still keep the same functionality.

I have tried the new update 14.2.1 and the Issue still remains, this is after having to buy a new Decklink duo 2 as the old one (just out of warranty) just gave up the ghost and crashed the whole PC whenever it is installed in the PC.

I just created an account to say that this is also happening to me, I advise everyone to open a support ticket. because Blackmagic isnt actively looking at this.

An issue like this could not last for this long. and for so many different versions. If you are having this bug please open a support ticket. If they have 100 tickets for this issue they will start working on this finnaly

Hello All,
Thank you for the thread, as it supports my same issues as well.
I have also downgraded to v12, but the issue for me presented a new variant, so i went back to v14.1.

My full workaround has been to pin the installation software to my Explorer, and whenever I am ready to actually produce and run cameras, I run the software and repair it. When it boots up and cameras are on and plugged in, everything shows 'as normal'.

Hello,

I got the problems with a quad 2 in a Z790 board (only 4 PCIE-lanes remain),
with a duo 2 the settings stay.
So I try a W790 board with Xeon and the quad 2 works fine and the
settings remain, cause there are PCIEx8.
Perhaps the PCIE-lanes are the reason.

Hope it helps

Hello,

I have been having these same issues and I'm mainly just replying to help keep track of progress or if anyone finds a solution.
I wondered if it was a Windows 11 related issue, but seeing as the initial poster has a Windows 10 I guess that theory is thrown out the window.
The systems I have are mostly Xeon W-2265 with some newer ones at W5-2455X that utilize dual output (key and fill for graphics) I didn't notice this issue at first, but simple video input and recording PCs all have had issues since moving to 14.0, and my best working version before that was 12.3 (I had not tried 12.9 but I am planning to rollback to that version for the recording systems after reading this thread)

Good luck all, hope we find a solution / get a fix for it soon!

It seems that it is finally fixed! With the latest Desktop Video software (version 14.3), which was released last week. On my system it seems that all ports are no longer linked on the first boot. (Windows 11 and 2x Decklink Duo 2).

Support recently emailed me with a suggestion to disable Fast Startup, as a temporary fix. But it seems to be fixed now. It is not mentioned in the changelog on the site. It is in the setup:
"Fix compatibility issue with Windows Fast Startup".

Note, for vmix users: There seem to be problems with the latest Desktop Video 14.3, in combination with vMix. But that has already been fixed in the latest vmix version: 27.0.0.89 (or 28.0.0.24 and newer, from the beta). Where Blackmagic takes half a year to fix a bug, vmix does it in a few days, but okay, good that it is finally fixed. At least, that's how it seems for now.

Having had the Decklink problem, I updated the software this morning and yes, the problem of the card losing its config has been resolved, BUT... a couple of days ago, ProPresenter also had a problem, so we had to upgrade to V18, which I did first (we run two identical PCs) on both PCs.

Having done that, I then updated the Decklink software on one of them, and ProPresenter stopped sending signal via the card.

I tested using BM-Media Express, and it worked fine on each of the 4 ports via SDI, but not ProPresenter.

That being the case, I held off updating the Decklink card software on the 2nd PC and we were able to use it for the services today.

Has anyone else had this problem, where you upgrade ProPresenter to V18 and Decklink to the latest release, and ProPresenter doesn't send signal out?

I don't use ProPresenter, but I have seen that other software (both vMix and CasparCG) have problems with that latest update 14.3. It seems that (all?) software that uses Decklink cards/sdk, needs an update or adjustment to be able to send out signal.. vMix already has an update, CasparCG is working on it, source:
https://github.com/CasparCG/server/issues/1589
https://forums.vmix.com/posts/t32648-Is ... input-vmix

So maybe ProPresenter needs adjustments too?

Update from ProPresenter Support...

"Change the one with the problem to 14.2.1 to match the one that works."

and

"Yes, the SDK and API are being updated but it will be in the next update of ProPresenter.
Sorry, but I don't have a timeframe for this update yet
."

Not ideal, as we're no further ahead with the DeckLink Duo 2 losing it's config for ProPresenter users... just have to wait for ProPresenter to catch up I guess.

We ran into this issue as well. We are running ProPresenter 18 and upgraded our DeckLink Duo 2 to Desktop Video 14.3. ProPresenter was then unable to send a SDI signal to our projector. I also tried 14.4 but had the same issue. We reverted to a 12.x Version and resolved the issue.

I went through ours again Sunday, as they’d both released updates..
ProPresenter seems completely sorted now, but on 14.2 & 14.4 I’m still getting messed up screens, so running 14.3 for the moment seems to be holding.

No change for me..
I have to uninstall 14.4 and then install 14.3, which works until the PC is shutdown and then powered on again.

Is it just my setup that’s not working?
Have I got something not set up right?

14.4 when installed looks right, but ProPresenter does not send out signals at all (black screens), or if it does (by changing the resolution in settings), it’s a frozen image on each screen.

Finally, ProPresenter has released 18.1 which works perfectly with BMD 14.4

Problem solved.
