How does load color memory work?

I've been following the instruction "Using and Organizing Memories" on the manual, but it seems to work incorrectly for me. Here's what I have. I graded a shot with window plus tracking and save to color/memories/Memory A. Then on a different shot, on a node with a window that has tracking on, I load Color/Memories/Load memory A on to that node, and it replaces the whole node with the tracking information and window instead of just applying the color grade to that node. So, how do I apply just the color grade and nothing else to a node regardless if that node has tracking and/or window?

Hi Charlie, as the manual describes, when recalling a still you are replacing all the current grade with that from the still, including windows, tracking etc. If you copy specific nodes from the still to the clip node graph this will apply that nodes grade and so you can copy and paste or 'append' a stills grade without clearing your current grade. All these details and more are described in the manual and for new users I highly recommend reading it from start to finish.

Thanks for the response. I've read the manual from page 533 to 553 and I do not see anything about applying just the color grade from a saved still/memory to a node without replacing the current tracking and window etc. except the color grade. There are bunch of information about replacing the current node, node graph, and clip. I just the current node's color grade to be reflected when apply the grade and nothing else should be changed.

As I reread the manual and thought about it, I don't think what I'm trying to do is possible with Resolve. Perhaps this is the limitation of Resolve. Whenever I apply a node from still or gallery, it replaces everything in my current node weather it be tracking, color correction, or windows etc.. It's more like an all or nothing kind of a deal. What I want is to apply just the color correction (such as curves, saturation, luminance etc. adjustments) to my current node instead of everything from the node I'm copying it from. In Avid MC (where I came from), I can save the color correction or grading and just drag and drop those to my clip and it would only affect the color part of it instead of everything in it. That's what I was looking for in Resolve.

What you're trying to do is possible, but you have to break your work out into multiple nodes, which is really how resolve is designed. If you track, window, and grade in a single node then you'll run into this.

The way I work is to break out various functions to different nodes: 1st node for LUTs only, 2nd node for basic balance, 3rd for curves, 4th for grade fine-tuning, 5th and higher for power windows, keys, etc..., and sometimes a final node added after for trimming the clip's grade. So this way I can copy from nodes 2, 3, and/or 4 to get the grade, while not affecting any tracking which would be in node 5 or higher.

If you're trying to copy just certain parameters from one node to another, then sadly that's not possible as you're right, you'll wipe out everything in that node and replace it.

I do wish Resolve had select-able parameters for copy-paste.

Thanks! I also realized that too as I kept playing with Resolve.

+1 - in the same way Capture One and Lightroom etc have a panel where you can check/uncheck what parameters will be applied when you paste settings.
