Not all of us are charging for our work. Some of us are creating original content from scratch for ourselves and not for a client.
Having said that, I think Krokodove is a good option, even though it does require the full version of Fusion (which at $1k is a bit steep for many, but maybe Blackmagic will do what they did with Resolve for the Mac and drop the price to $500 which IMHO would make it a really compelling purchase).
Personally, I find Fusion to not quite be able to replace AfterEffects for my specific needs. I purchased CS6 way back when and that's what I'm running since I don't like the Adobe monthly subscription. It's very difficult to justify giving up all of the specialized AE plugins that I purchased through the years for the sake of jumping into Fusion exclusively. My advice to the OP is -- Fusion isn't a substitute for AE, it's an alternate VFX app which might be able to handle some things better, and some things worse than AE. Trying to emulate Plexus on Fusion is probably not the most efficient use of your time. Different tools for different tasks is what my personal attitude is. If you already have Plexus and AE, then you're all set for that particular (and IMHO overused) effect. Rather focus on learning to do things in Fusion that would be very difficult or impossible in AE.
